Following his popular voice work in Into the Spider-Verse, Nicholas Cage is reprising his role as Spider-Man Noir in a new live-action TV series coming to Amazon Prime on May 25th. The show will be based on Marvel’s Noir Universe – a 1930s world inspired by classic detective stories. Spider-Man Noir recently returned in a comic book series as well. But he’s not the only hero in this dark world! Marvel has also created noir versions of characters like Daredevil, Iron Man, and the X-Men. With this universe being revisited, many other heroes could get their own noir-themed comic series too.
The characters from the Noir Universe are frequently updated to be more realistic and complex, and often lose their original superpowers in the process. However, many strong, thoughtful heroes still exist who would feel perfectly at home in the shadowy, mysterious world of 1930s detectives and gangsters.
5) Iron Fist

Given that Luke Cage already had his own show, it’s logical that Iron Fist, his close friend and fighting partner, could get one too. However, a darker, ‘noir’ take on Iron Fist could move away from fantastical, building-destroying powers and focus on practical martial arts skills. Removing his supernatural abilities would make his fights against large groups of criminals much more dangerous and suspenseful. This blend of noir storytelling and martial arts action could create a fresh and unique style not often seen in comics.
4) Black Widow

For me, the late 1930s and early 40s are completely dominated by the shadow of World War II, and I’ve always loved how many classic noir stories captured the feeling of that time with thrilling tales of espionage. When I think of spies, especially in the Marvel Universe, Black Widow immediately comes to mind. It just feels natural to imagine her operating during that era – she’d be the perfect undercover agent, whether she was working within the United States or bravely infiltrating Nazi-occupied Europe, gathering crucial intelligence. Honestly, with her incredible intelligence, ability to read people, and sheer skill, she’s exactly the kind of resourceful, dangerous hero who would absolutely shine leading a gritty, atmospheric noir spy thriller.
3) Hulk

The Hulk might not seem like a natural fit for a film noir story, but he actually has a lot of potential in that genre. Marvel could reimagine him as simply a very strong, large man, removing the radioactive elements. His existing struggle with dissociative identity disorder could add compelling psychological depth, reflecting the limited understanding of mental health in the classic noir era. Plus, the Hulk already has a gangster persona named Joe Fixit, perfectly suited to the 1930s setting. In fact, the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man successfully explored this version of the character in a noir universe, demonstrating how well he fits the gangster story archetype.
2) Moon Knight

Marvel has successfully adapted several of its darker, street-level heroes – like Daredevil and the Punisher – into the Noir Universe, and Moon Knight would fit right in. He’s already a troubled character who investigates mysteries, meaning a Noir series wouldn’t require major changes. Marvel Noir has explored adventurous, pulp-style stories, as seen with Iron Man, and Moon Knight’s Egyptian background could build on that. Similar to the Hulk, Moon Knight struggles with multiple personalities, and his connection to the god Khonshu could be presented as another facet of his fractured mind. With his often brutal methods, Moon Knight is a great fit for a suspenseful, horror-tinged noir story filled with mystery and action.
1) Jessica Jones

The Marvel Noir universe generally sticks to classic noir themes, which hasn’t left much room for female leads. Women are usually portrayed as either dangerous and seductive figures or helpless victims. However, Jessica Jones would be a perfect fit for a 1930s noir detective story. Her stories already draw inspiration from the genre, and placing her in that era as a private investigator could offer a strong message about sexism and the struggles for women’s rights during the Depression and WWII. Jessica Jones is a skilled detective who could easily handle any mystery within the Noir Universe.
