5 MCU Storylines Marvel Has Forgotten About

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been following the MCU for years, and honestly, it feels like they’ve started a ton of interesting stories that just… fizzle out. We’re in this big Multiverse Saga now, and while they’ve introduced some cool characters and ideas, the overall story feels a bit messy. They’re releasing so many movies and shows, jumping all over the place, that it’s hard to keep track of everything. It’s really frustrating when a plotline seems promising, then gets dropped with no payoff. You want everything to connect and matter, you know? It feels like they’re leaving potential on the table and fans are getting a little disappointed.

Many unresolved storylines in the Marvel Cinematic Universe seem to have been dropped as Marvel’s plans changed. However, just because these plot threads have been left hanging doesn’t mean they’ll never be revisited. Here are five storylines Marvel appears to have forgotten about.

5) Hulk’s Son

The Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022) introduced Skaar, the son of Bruce Banner/Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). He only appeared briefly in the show’s finale, suggesting he was meant to play a larger role later on. However, neither Hulk nor Skaar has been seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for three years. While Hulk is scheduled to return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) and likely other projects, it’s unknown if Marvel plans to bring back Skaar. Skaar could potentially fight with his father and learn to control his Hulk abilities, or even become a member of the Young Avengers. She-Hulk successfully expanded the Hulk family by introducing both Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) and Skaar, so it would be disappointing if Marvel didn’t explore these characters further.

4) The Ebony Blade

The end of the movie Eternals (2021) hinted at Dane Whitman (Kit Harrington) becoming Black Knight after finding the Ebony Blade and hearing from Blade (Mahershala Ali). However, the Blade movie itself has been delayed repeatedly, making it unlikely we’ll see Dane return anytime soon. He didn’t get much screen time in Eternals to begin with, and that movie wasn’t very successful, so future appearances seem uncertain. Fans have been eagerly anticipating a Blade movie for a long time, and Marvel’s struggles to get it made, combined with the lack of follow-up to the Eternals tease, is disappointing because it’s stalled a potentially exciting storyline within the Multiverse Saga.

3) The Eternals’ Celestial Judgement

In the movie Eternals, the heroes manage to prevent a massive Celestial being, Tiamut, from destroying Earth after a difficult and damaging fight. This battle pits Sersi, Druig, Makkari, and others against Ikaris. However, the film leaves some questions unanswered. Arishem, another Celestial, ultimately decides to spare Earth, but only if humanity proves it deserves to be saved.

It’s been four years since Eternals came out, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t followed up on the team’s battle to save the world or the looming threat of Arishem’s judgment. You’d think these events would be a huge deal, comparable to Thanos’s snap, but it feels like Eternals happened in a separate universe entirely. Marvel’s decision to not make a sequel might be the reason, but the MCU should still acknowledge the movie’s important story at some point.

2) Rhodey Is a Skrull

The Disney+ series Secret Invasion (2023) had several unexpected twists, but the biggest shock was revealing that James “Rhodey” Rhodes, also known as War Machine (Don Cheadle), was a Skrull. The idea that a long-standing, trusted Avenger had been a Skrull imposter for years has huge implications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, there’s a chance this shocking reveal will be undone. Since Secret Invasion aired, Rhodey hasn’t appeared or even been mentioned, and the show wasn’t well-received. This could lead Marvel to ignore the Skrull storyline altogether, which is likely what many fans want, as it’s considered a poor creative choice. While Rhodey’s future in the MCU is unclear, Marvel could preserve his reputation by letting the Skrull reveal be forgotten.

1) Where the Ten Rings Came From

A major mystery remains after the movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: where did the powerful Ten Rings actually come from? These ancient weapons were used by Xu Wenwu (Tony Leung Chiu-wai) for centuries and then passed on to his son, Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), but their origins are still unknown. Marvel hasn’t explained their history yet, and while a sequel to Shang-Chi might reveal more, it could be a long wait. It’s been four years since Shang-Chi first appeared, and many fans feel Marvel is overlooking a promising storyline and character.
