The DC Universe is incredibly vast, filled with numerous worlds and alien civilizations. Many of DC’s most iconic heroes – like Superman, Martian Manhunter, and the Green Lanterns – are actually aliens who protect not just Earth, but the entire universe and beyond. These alien species range from those with populations in the billions to those on the brink of disappearing. Despite their numbers, many possess extraordinary powers, capable of challenging even the gods and potentially reshaping or destroying the universe itself.
When people imagine aliens, they often picture beings with incredible power, and this list focuses on the most powerful of those races. We’ll be looking at alien groups in general, not individual exceptionally strong aliens. Also, we’re only including races that come from the main DC Universe—so you won’t find super-powerful god-like beings like the New Gods or creatures from other dimensions, such as the Imps.
5) Green Martians

Mars, the planet next to Earth, was once home to a remarkably powerful and adaptable alien race. There were two main types of Martians: Green and White. While the White Martians were more aggressive, the Green Martians eventually won and exiled them to another dimension. Green Martians, such as Martian Manhunter, have incredible abilities, including telepathy, shapeshifting, super strength, flight, and more. They can even regenerate their entire body from a single cell. Sadly, a psychic virus wiped out most of these peaceful aliens, but Martian Manhunter survived and now stands as one of the Justice League’s most powerful heroes.
4) Daxamites

Daxamites are related to Kryptonians, descended from those who left Krypton and mixed with other alien races. Like Kryptonians, they become incredibly strong and fast under a yellow sun, and can also fly, shoot heat from their eyes, and freeze things with their breath. However, instead of being weakened by Kryptonite, Daxamites are vulnerable to lead. Despite this weakness, many Daxamites – including characters like Mon-El, Andromeda, and Sodam Yat – are capable of amazing feats, such as traveling faster than light and destroying planets. Recently, experiments with a device called the Eradicator have created a new generation of Daxamites who are immune to lead, making them even more powerful and less vulnerable.
3) Burning Martians

Long before the Green and White Martians, the original inhabitants of Mars were the Burning Martians – incredibly powerful, but cruel and always fighting amongst themselves. They were constantly wreathed in flames and could burn almost anything. Their powers – including telepathy, shapeshifting, super strength, and heat vision – were far greater than those of later Martian races. These beings were such a dangerous threat to the universe that the Oans diminished their power with a procedure that made them weaker and vulnerable to fire. With their fury suppressed, they eventually evolved into the Green and White Martians. Even a single Burning Martian brought back to life proved incredibly dangerous, capable of causing worldwide chaos and defeating the Justice League with their mind.
2) Kryptonians

When Krypton was destroyed, only a few of its people survived, and they discovered incredible powers under the light of a yellow sun. These Kryptonians, including Superman and Supergirl, are among the most powerful beings in the universe. While vulnerable to Kryptonite, magic, and red sunlight, they gain immense strength, speed, and resilience from yellow sunlight. This also gives them abilities like heat vision, freeze breath, flight, and heightened senses. Kryptonians are capable of astonishing feats – shattering planets, defeating gods, traveling faster than time itself, and creating universe-altering shockwaves.
1) Maltusians

The Maltusians are one of the oldest intelligent species in the multiverse, existing for billions of years. Originally from the planet Maltus, these short, blue, and immortal beings relocated to Oa, a planet at the universe’s center. Over time, they divided into three powerful groups: the Oans, the Controllers, and the Zamerons. The Oans, also known as the Guardians of the Universe, created both the Manhunters and the Green Lantern Corps. The Controllers developed the Darkstars, and the Zamerons established the Star Sapphires. Using the universe’s fundamental energies and emotions, the Maltusians were able to form these groups and wield incredible power, including manipulating vast amounts of energy, time travel, and reality warping.
