5 Netflix TV Series We Can’t Believe Were Cancelled in 2025

It was a surprise to many when Netflix cancelled five well-loved TV shows in 2025. Netflix has a history of ending shows, often due to low viewership, a small audience over time, or poor ratings. Over the years, they’ve cancelled other critically acclaimed series like The Great, Sense8, The OA, Mindhunter, and The Society, and unfortunately, five more were added to that list this year.

Netflix has cancelled a diverse range of shows – including crime dramas, spy thrillers, comedies, animated adventures, and mysteries – meaning we won’t get any new seasons after 2025. While we anticipate upcoming series like Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, His & Hers, Run Away, and returning favorites such as Bridgerton, The Watcher, 3 Body Problem, and Black Doves, it’s worth remembering these recently cancelled shows.

5) The Waterfront

Created by Kevin Williamson, known for shows like Scream and Dawson’s Creek, the crime drama The Waterfront was cancelled by Netflix after just one season. Starring Holt McCallany, Melissa Benoist, and Jake Weary, the series followed a North Carolina family who resorted to crime to save their fishing business. While some viewers noted similarities to popular Netflix shows like Ozark and Bloodline, it apparently didn’t attract a large enough audience. Despite briefly reaching the number one spot on Netflix’s Top 10 and remaining in the Top 10 for five weeks, the show’s story has come to an end.

4) The Recruit

Despite a stronger second season, Netflix canceled the spy series The Recruit in March 2025. The show follows Owen Hendricks, a new CIA lawyer played by Noah Centineo, whose life gets complicated when an agent tries to reveal her ties to the agency, endangering everyone involved. While The Recruit consistently ranked in Netflix’s Top 10, saw increased viewership in season two, and gained a dedicated following, it wasn’t enough to prevent cancellation. It’s disappointing for fans that the series won’t return after its season two cliffhanger.

3) No Good Deed

Despite a strong cast and a funny premise, the black comedy No Good Deed was put on hold indefinitely in July 2025. Though not officially canceled, it seems unlikely to return. The show centers around three families competing to buy the same house, and they’re all willing to do anything to win. With a talented ensemble cast including Lisa Kudrow, Ray Romano, and Linda Cardellini, and positive feedback from critics and viewers, No Good Deed seemed promising. However, the future of the series, from Dead to Me creator Liz Feldman, remains uncertain.

2) Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft

I was so excited when the new animated Tomb Raider series dropped on Netflix in October 2024, and it quickly became one of my favorites! Hayley Atwell was perfect as Lara Croft. We were all thrilled when Netflix renewed it so quickly, but unfortunately, the second season, which came out on December 11, 2025, turned out to be the last one. It’s a real shame, especially because the show was so well-received – everyone loved the unique animation, the voice acting was fantastic, and it really felt true to the Tomb Raider games. I’ve heard rumors that Netflix might have cancelled it to make way for the upcoming live-action reboot with Sophie Turner, and that’s a little disappointing, but I’m still hoping both versions can thrive.

1) The Residence

Despite featuring a stellar cast, impressive production, and positive reviews, the Netflix series The Residence was unfortunately canceled in 2025. The show, starring Uzo Aduba as the quirky detective Cordelia Cupp, centered around a murder mystery that unfolded during a state dinner for the Australian prime minister. While boasting a fantastic ensemble cast including Giancarlo Esposito, Randall Park, and Jane Curtin, the show’s high production costs, combined with its release alongside the lengthy four-part series Adolescence, likely impacted viewership, leading to its premature cancellation.
