Superman and Spider-Man will team up again soon, marking the first time they’ve met in decades! To honor the 50th anniversary of their initial crossover in Superman vs. The Amazing Spider-Man, DC and Marvel are releasing two special comics filled with stories that combine their universes. Similar to previous team-ups like Batman and Deadpool, each comic will feature a main story alongside several smaller crossover tales. This time, the shorter stories will focus on characters from Superman’s world interacting with heroes and villains from Spider-Man’s Marvel Universe.
The upcoming DC/Marvel crossover specials promise some exciting stories – I’m especially eager to read the Jimmy Olsen and Carnage backups. However, after seeing what’s planned, it feels like DC and Marvel are overlooking some great crossover potential. For example, a recent variant cover featured Supergirl and Spider-Girl, which feels like a natural fit, but isn’t part of the announced stories. While the one-shots look fantastic, here are five ideas that Marvel and DC probably won’t be including in this event.
5. Livewire and Black Cat

As a movie lover, I’ve been thinking about how cool it would be to see Livewire and Black Cat team up! Both characters – one a super-skilled thief, the other a high-energy personality – have these pretty obvious superhero names, and their stories have actually followed similar paths recently. While they’re usually portrayed as enemies of Superman and Spider-Man, they’ve both surprised us by becoming allies. Honestly, a crossover where these two just hang out and swap stories, or maybe even cause a little mayhem, would be fantastic. Just imagining how Livewire’s bold personality would bounce off Black Cat’s love for adventure is incredibly exciting! It’d be a really fun dynamic to watch.
4. Venom and Eradicator

As a huge comic book and movie fan, I’ve always been fascinated by characters who are essentially the dark side of a hero. Venom and the Eradicator totally fit that bill – they’re like twisted reflections of Spider-Man and Superman. But what’s really cool is that they aren’t just copies; they both have their own ideas about what’s right and wrong, and powers that are all their own. Honestly, I’d love to see a short film with these two just talking about their paths, how being connected to Spider-Man or Superman shaped them. And let’s be real, they just look amazing together – a seriously cool pairing!
3. Spidercide and Bizarro

It’s really interesting to me that both Superman and Spider-Man have had clones who’ve become compelling characters. Considering Spider-Man has been cloned so many times, I’m specifically referring to Spidercide. He and Bizarro share a similar origin – both were created for a specific purpose, but ended up being flawed versions of the originals. I’ve always enjoyed Bizarro stories, particularly those that delve into his sense of self, and I think he and Spidercide would have a fascinating conversation if they ever met.
2. Sideways and Sentry

Wouldn’t it be hilarious to see parodies of Superman and Spider-Man team up instead of the heroes themselves? Both Marvel and DC already create satirical versions of each other’s characters, so leaning into that for a crossover feels fresh and funny. The idea of pairing a streamer obsessed with internet culture with a character who struggles with immense, world-ending power is really interesting. I’m a big fan of these parody characters, and I think a team-up between Sideways and Sentry would be a lot of fun. Plus, it would be a great way to bring Sideways back into the spotlight.
1. Spider-Gwen and Supergirl

Honestly, I’m a little baffled by Marvel and DC’s choices here. Beyond that Peach Momoko variant, why aren’t we seeing Spider-Gwen and Supergirl team up? Both are massively popular with fans, and both have compelling, relatable backstories – they’ve really come into their own lately. I’m glad Miles Morales and Jon Kent are getting some screen time together, but I genuinely think the publishers dropped the ball by not giving Kara and Gwen a chance to share the spotlight. A story with those two could have been amazing!
