The visual updates introduced during the Kelvin timeline films were successful because they felt true to Star Trek. The sets and costumes were refreshed while still capturing the essence of the series. Smart use of color and lighting reinforced the optimistic tone that’s always been central to Star Trek stories, creating a look that felt both current and respectful of the franchise’s history.

Strong characters have always been central to Star Trek, but the stories in the Kelvin timeline felt different.
