Good news for Anne Rice’s vampire fans! A new season of Interview with the Vampire (now known as The Vampire Lestat) is coming, and this time, the focus is on the iconic Lestat. After two seasons largely centered around Louis, we’ll finally experience the story through Lestat’s perspective. The new season will explore his history, personality, musical passions, and new relationships – both friendly and hostile. The trailer suggests the show will boldly expand the Vampire Chronicles universe in a fresh and modern way, giving Sam Reid’s Lestat the attention he’s always craved.
Forget just dark atmospheres and familiar storylines – the new episodes of The Vampire Lestat bring plenty of new conflicts, suspense, and a surprisingly different feel. Here are the 5 most exciting things you can look forward to.
5) Lestat’s Past

Lestat has always been a complex character, but until now, we’ve only seen him through Louis’s eyes. Season 3 finally gives Lestat a chance to tell his own story, revealing his perspective on events previously shared in Daniel’s book. This shift in viewpoint dramatically changes how we understand him. The new episodes will explore his past, how he became a vampire, and his true feelings about the decisions he’s made, ultimately giving us a much deeper understanding of Lestat than we’ve seen before on television.
What’s really exciting is that the show won’t rely solely on looking back at the past. Instead, Lestat will be the one telling the story, showing us his flaws, indulgences, and schemes from his own perspective. If done well, this approach could make the season grander in scope, moving beyond just the relationship between him and Louis. Essentially, Lestat is moving from a supporting role to the central character driving the plot.
4) Original Songs

Lestat, as fans know, considers himself a vampire artist, so it’s fitting that the new season of Interview with the Vampire will feature a soundtrack. What’s really exciting is that the music will be original and performed live by Lestat himself! This makes sense considering his dramatic, self-centered personality and his need for attention. The music isn’t just background noise; it’s a core part of the story. Each song will essentially be Lestat expressing his thoughts through rock music, giving this season a unique feel unlike anything we’ve seen before.
This season marks a clear departure from the previous ones. While earlier seasons leaned heavily into a traditional gothic atmosphere, this one incorporates a dynamic performance aspect, making it feel fresher and more contemporary. We really get a sense of Lestat’s charisma and theatricality, which makes him more relatable without becoming overly sentimental. If executed well, this approach will give viewers a deeper connection to the story than typical vampire tales. Only one song, “Long Face,” has been released so far, but the soundtrack is confirmed to be inspired by artists like David Bowie, Chappell Roan, Björk, Prince, and Florence Welch.
3) New Important Characters

No new season is complete without fresh faces! The Vampire Lestat introduces several important characters who will drive the plot forward: Magnus (Damien Atkins), the vampire who turned Lestat; Marius (Christopher Heyerdahl), the creator of Armand and a key figure in the larger story; and Lestat’s mother, Gabrielle (Jennifer Ehle), known as Gabriella in the series. Staying true to the spirit of the books – while still offering a unique adaptation – the show makes it clear these characters will be vital to the unfolding story. They promise more challenges, power plays, and, above all, conflict, allowing the show’s mythology to grow in significant ways.
The show isn’t just focused on the main characters; even smaller roles, even brief appearances, can add depth to the story, like Ella Ballentine’s character, Baby Jenks. It’s still uncertain how these new characters will affect the plot. While this season heavily draws from The Vampire Lestat book, expect to see elements from other books in The Vampire Chronicles as well. Lestat’s concert, which is featured in The Queen of the Damned and shown from the perspectives of many different vampires, hints at what’s to come. One thing is clear: the series has moved beyond simply focusing on the conflict between Lestat and Louis.
2) Daniel and Armand’s Dynamic

Many fans of The Vampire Chronicles particularly enjoy the story of Daniel and Armand. The first two seasons of Interview with the Vampire offered glimpses of their connection, but it wasn’t fully explored. We know Armand turned Daniel into a vampire, though we didn’t see it happen on screen. Their relationship will become a major focus in The Vampire Lestat, and showrunner Rolin Jones promises to weave in important parts of their story from the books, even if the storyline isn’t a direct adaptation.
Armand desires control over others, and his relationship with the newly-turned vampire, Daniel, is quickly becoming unhealthy and filled with psychological conflict—though there’s also a romantic element. They’ve always had a strained connection, but now it’s much more intense, involving a dangerous mix of trust, manipulation, and attraction. Daniel isn’t a blank slate; he has his own strong personality, which Armand must navigate without losing power. Unlike Louis, who was initially naive, Daniel understands the situation and feels inescapably bound to someone he sees as an adversary.
1) Akasha

Much of the plot for the upcoming season of The Vampire Lestat is still secret, but fans are especially excited about the introduction of Akasha. She’s a character they’ve been hoping to see for years – she only appeared in the 2002 Queen of the Damned film until now. The Season 2 finale, where Lestat revealed he had her blood, strongly suggested her arrival. Sheila Atim will be playing Akasha, and while details are scarce, her presence is significant. Akasha isn’t just a danger; she’s the ultimate threat to all vampires, and she shares a unique connection with Lestat, who will be instrumental in bringing her story to light.
Akasha really changes everything for the story. While the first part of the show focused on characters reconnecting, building tension, and looking back at the past, now there’s a much bigger threat: the possibility of losing immortality, and some serious power struggles. It’s still unknown if she’ll be a minor or major character this season, but it’s certain she’ll have a huge impact on Lestat’s story. If you enjoyed the slow-burn, character-driven tension of Interview with the Vampire so far, prepare for things to speed up and become much more action-packed, and Akasha is the main reason for that shift.
Interview with the Vampire Season 3: The Vampire Lestat premieres in June.
