5 Times Bullseye Was Marvel’s Deadliest Assassin

Bullseye is a major enemy of Daredevil and is widely considered one of Marvel’s most lethal assassins. For years, Marvel has kept his true identity hidden, only revealing the name Lester. His backstory, explored in the 2004 series Bullseye: Greatest Hits, reveals a troubled past – including killing his own father and, as a young baseball player, accidentally killing someone with a pitch. He’s a highly effective hitman for the Kingpin, consistently demonstrating his skills and proving his value.

Here is a look at five times that Bullseye proved he was Marvel Comics’ most dangerous assassin.

5) Killed Agent Hoskins (With A Tooth)

Scott Hoskins was a law enforcement officer working with the National Security Administration’s Super-Crimes Division. In the story Bullseye: Greatest Hits, he made a serious error in judgment when he underestimated Bullseye. Hoskins approached the bound prisoner, believing he could easily overpower him. After one of Hoskins’ punches knocked out a tooth, Bullseye surprisingly held the tooth in his mouth.

It was unbelievable. He took down Hoskins with a single, perfectly aimed spit – right into his forehead, and it was over instantly. Then, when Hoskins’ partner, Horace, burst in and started shooting at him, he used the restraints on his hands to bounce the bullet right back, killing Horace too. What really got me, though, was that he let himself get captured. Turns out his dad was inside, and he wanted to finish him off as well. Nobody made it out of that prison alive, not a single person.

4) Almost Killed Kingpin (But Was Paid Off)

In Daredevil #171, the mercenary Bullseye was contracted to assassinate Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin. Bullseye started eliminating Fisk’s associates as a warning, which only mildly concerned the Kingpin – he saw surviving the attempt as a testament to his own strength. This created a difficult situation for Daredevil, who had recently saved Bullseye’s life.

Bullseye orchestrated an assassination attempt, which unexpectedly resulted in an attack on Kingpin’s wife, Vanessa Fisk, who appeared to be killed. This event propelled Kingpin back into power within the criminal underworld. When Bullseye had Kingpin in his sights, Kingpin offered him a significantly larger sum of money. Bullseye took the offer, killing his previous employers and becoming Kingpin’s new enforcer.

3) Killed Karen Page

Bullseye is Daredevil’s most persistent and damaging enemy. He’s repeatedly caused Daredevil immense pain, even killing several of his romantic partners. Karen Page, one of Daredevil’s first and most memorable girlfriends, deeply betrayed him. She became addicted to drugs and then, desperate for money, revealed Daredevil’s secret identity to the Kingpin. But the consequences of that betrayal were what truly devastated Daredevil.

Matt Murdock’s life was shattered by Karen’s betrayal, and things only got worse when Bullseye began targeting Daredevil. Bullseye ultimately murdered Karen Page, shooting her in a Catholic Church while Daredevil held her. This shocking event was typical of the intense “Born Again” storyline, and Bullseye cemented his place as the person who caused Daredevil the most pain.

2) Killed Electra

Before his tragic killing of Karen Page, Bullseye had already established himself as a highly skilled assassin. Elektra, working as a mercenary and hitwoman, reconnected with Matt Murdock, a friend from their college days. Despite Matt’s disapproval of her dangerous lifestyle, they stayed close, which ultimately put Elektra in harm’s way. The situation worsened when Kingpin recruited Elektra as his top assassin, tasking her with killing Ben Ulrich.

Bullseye saw an opportunity to both regain Kingpin’s favor as his top hitman and inflict more pain on Daredevil. He attacked Elektra, and a fight ensued. Before Daredevil could intervene, Bullseye fatally stabbed Elektra with her own weapon, and she died in Daredevil’s arms. While Bullseye considered this his most impressive kill, Daredevil arrived soon after, furiously attacked him, and left him paralyzed.

1) Killed Daredevil (End Of Days)

The 2012 miniseries Daredevil: End of Days depicts a future where Daredevil is killed by Bullseye. The story unfolds as a noir mystery, beginning with Daredevil’s dying word, “Mapone.” This clue, similar to the storytelling technique in Citizen Kane, hints at the central mystery: the name of Daredevil’s daughter, who shares a connection with Black Widow.

The series began with a shocking fight, and incredibly, Daredevil was killed by Bullseye just four pages into the first issue. Reporter Ben Ulrich covered the story of Daredevil’s death. Surprisingly, Bullseye himself died in the fourth issue, driven to suicide by Daredevil’s last words. In a final, chilling act, he used his incredible skill to deflect a bullet and take his own life with perfect accuracy – he didn’t miss, even in death.
