A new update has emerged regarding the future of the Transformers movie franchise.
In the recent news, it has been announced that Michael Bay is coming back to Paramount Pictures for a new live-action installment in the Transformers series. Previously, Bay was responsible for directing five Transformers films: 2007’s Transformers, 2009’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon, 2014’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, and 2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight.
The piece from Puck further noted that Jordan VanDina’s Bay’s project, one among several Transformers projects currently in development, may become part of David Ellison and Skydance’s portfolio if the Paramount sale is finalized.
What is the latest update on the Transformers movie franchise?
According to Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider, there might not be a new Transformers movie in production for some time because Paramount doesn’t have to start work on a new film until 2029 due to their contract with Hasbro.
Among the upcoming Transformers ventures is a live-action movie directed by Josh Cooley, the same director of the 2024 animated film “Transformers One.” Additionally, there’s been talk about a Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover, hinted at in the end of 2023’s “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.” However, details on this project have been scarce recently, with Sneider expressing skepticism that it will ever come to fruition.
The other two are only described as being in “early development.”
After parting ways with the Transformers series, Bay has been busy directing films. In 2019, he released 6 Underground, followed by Ambulance in 2022. His latest project is a documentary about a troupe of parkour and free-running athletes, titled We Are Storror. This documentary premiered at the 2025 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival.
Apart from the Skibidi Toilet initiative, Bay is also engaged in creating an action movie for Netflix alongside Will Smith, entitled “Fast and Loose”.
