It’s often surprising when HBO Max removes its own shows, and it’s happened again, this time with a psychological thriller. HBO Max frequently takes titles off the platform for a number of reasons, often to save money on payments to the people who created them. This has affected shows from Cartoon Network, as well as popular series like Westworld. Sometimes, HBO also removes content as a tax benefit, even for projects – like the movie Batgirl – that were never released.
I was really enjoying the psychological thriller Possessions on HBO Max, so I was disappointed to hear it’s leaving soon! It originally came to the service back in 2020 – HBO Max picked it up from Studiocanal. Created by Shachar Magen, who also did Sirens, and directed by Thomas Vincent of Bodyguard, it was a really cool international series that first appeared in December 2020. Unfortunately, HBO Max has said Possessions will be gone from the platform on January 27th.
The TV series Possessions was filmed in Israel and features dialogue in French, Hebrew, and English. Reda Kateb plays Karim, a French diplomat sent to investigate a crime. Nadia Tereszkiewicz stars as Natalie, a French woman living in Israel who is suspected of killing her husband on their wedding night. Karim must uncover the truth about what happened, and the story combines the suspense of a crime thriller with touches of fantasy and family relationships.
What Will Happen to Possessions Now?

Good news for fans of the show Possessions – and those who haven’t seen it yet! When HBO Max removes shows from its platform, it often finds them new homes on other streaming services. While there’s always a chance a show could simply be removed for good, it’s more likely HBO Max will license Possessions to another streamer.
Fans were surprised and upset when HBO Max took down the popular show Westworld. Luckily, it quickly became available on other platforms, often for free, and you can still purchase it on Amazon or through Prime Video or Apple TV. There’s a possibility that a service like Prime Video or Netflix could license the show from HBO Max, meaning it might reappear there eventually. But if it doesn’t end up anywhere else, fans have until January 27th to watch it on HBO Max.
