Many people thought Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle had a chance at an Academy Award, especially after being nominated for a Golden Globe and performing well in theaters. It’s fantastic that anime films are now reaching a quality where they can rival and even beat Hollywood’s animated movies, demonstrating how popular anime has become. However, the complete lack of nominations for major 2025 anime releases like Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle highlights that anime still hasn’t fully broken into the mainstream. This feels like a correction after a long period of enthusiastic support from fans.
What Does This Mean for Demon Slayer’s Future at the Movies?
Even though Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle wasn’t nominated for an Oscar, it won’t affect the production of the remaining two films in the trilogy. Unlike Hollywood sequels, the budget isn’t tied to box office performance, and the first film has been so successful in theaters that it will remain exclusively in cinemas for an extended period.
I’m so excited! This movie was already a big theatrical event all throughout 2025, but get this – it’s coming back to IMAX in Japan later this February with an even better version! It looks like we’ll be waiting a while for it to hit streaming or Blu-ray, which is a bummer, but honestly, I’m okay with that if it means they’re focusing on what’s next. I can’t wait to see what they have planned!
