6 Marvel Movies That Are All But Confirmed for Phase 7 (I Can’t Believe #3 Won’t Happen Sooner)

While Marvel Studios hasn’t officially announced what’s coming in Phase 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, several exciting projects are in the works or being discussed. Phase 6 and the current Multiverse Saga will conclude with *Avengers: Secret Wars* on December 17, 2027. Although the Multiverse Saga has received mixed reactions, the next phase of the MCU, starting in 2028, could finally deliver some of the movies fans have been hoping for.

Marvel’s cinematic universe (MCU) has been unfolding in phases. Phases 4 and 5 released between 2021 and 2025, and Phase 6 is scheduled to conclude in 2027. If this pattern continues, Phase 7 will likely see new releases between 2028 and 2030, potentially bringing four to six movies to theaters – a number influenced by Marvel’s current, more measured release pace. While not officially announced, Phase 7 is expected to begin what’s been discussed as the “Mutant Saga.” More importantly, this phase will represent a fresh start for the MCU, fundamentally changing the direction of the franchise.

In a July interview with ComicBook, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared that they are currently planning the next three phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which will form a new saga. He explained that the initial phase of this saga will be directly influenced by the events of recent movies and especially *Avengers: Secret Wars*. This confirms that *Avengers: Doomsday* and *Secret Wars* will be pivotal to the MCU’s direction. While six movies are either confirmed or strongly rumored to be in the works, many believe they’ll make up Phase 7, though some fans expected them to arrive earlier.

6) Blade

The reboot of Marvel Studios’ *Blade* was initially announced in 2019 with Mahershala Ali cast as the lead, Eric Brooks. However, the film’s production has faced numerous challenges, leading to its removal from Marvel’s release schedule last October. Recently, Marvel shared encouraging news about *Blade*, indicating progress with a new script being written by Eric Pearson (known for *Thunderbolts* and *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*), and Ali remaining in the starring role.

With the introduction of a strong animated version of Blade in *Marvel Zombies*, and a voice cameo in *Eternals* hinting at his future, a *Blade* reboot would fit perfectly into Phase 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The *Marvel Zombies* version, voiced by Todd Williams, was a unique take on the character as Moon Knight, but Mahershala Ali is set to play the definitive Blade. Ali’s brief appearance after the credits of *Eternals* – where he warned Kit Harington’s character about the Ebony Blade – deserves a proper continuation in the next phase of Marvel films.

5) Shang-Chi 2

Marvel has faced criticism for not focusing enough on some of its newer, strongest characters, including Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi. Despite the success of *Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings*, a sequel hasn’t happened yet. Director Destin Daniel Cretton has been working on other projects like the *Wonder Man* series and *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*, but he and Liu have hinted that *Shang-Chi 2* is still in development. With Simu Liu set to appear in *Avengers: Doomsday*, the stage could soon be set for his long-awaited sequel.

4) Black Panther 3

As a huge Marvel fan, I was thrilled to hear that *Black Panther 3* is officially happening! The first *Black Panther* was a game-changer when it came out in 2018, and *Wakanda Forever* was a really moving tribute to Chadwick Boseman. Now, with Letitia Wright stepping into the Black Panther role and Winston Duke becoming king, I’m so curious to see where they take the story next. There’s even talk of potentially bringing in some classic Marvel mutants like Storm, which would be amazing! It sounds like Phase 7 is going to be epic, and I can’t wait to see what Ryan Coogler and Marvel have planned.

3) Doctor Strange 3

Benedict Cumberbatch has strongly hinted he’ll reprise his role as Doctor Strange in a third film, but fans are frustrated it won’t be released before the *Avengers: Secret Wars* movie. The ending of *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness* introduced Charlize Theron’s Clea and set up a clear storyline for *Doctor Strange 3* – potentially adapting the *Time Runs Out* comic event – which would logically lead into *Secret Wars*. Unfortunately, it appears *Doctor Strange 3* isn’t scheduled to come out until Phase 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and while fans will be excited to see Cumberbatch back, many wish his return was happening sooner.

2) The Fantastic Four: First Steps 2

Just before *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* came out in June, *Variety* announced that a sequel was already being planned. With the successful introduction of a new Fantastic Four team – starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach – into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, more movies were expected. Marvel Studios likely wants to release these sequels quickly to establish the Fantastic Four as key players in the MCU’s future, starting with Phase 7.

1) X-Men

After Disney bought 20th Century Fox in 2019, Marvel Studios gained the rights to the X-Men and their characters. Marvel immediately began planning a fresh start for the X-Men within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Although the current Multiverse Saga has acknowledged the X-Men’s previous movies and brought back some familiar actors, Phase 7 of the MCU will feature a completely new cast playing Marvel’s mutant heroes and villains. Jake Schreier, the director of *Thunderbolts*, is heading up the project, and rumors about who will be cast are already appearing, confirming that the *X-Men* reboot is definitely planned for a Phase 7 release.
