Don’t ever underestimate how popular Dragon Ball still is—the new game, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, proves it.
The popular fighting game, released on PlayStation 5 last October, continues to draw in a large player base, according to producer Jun Furutani.
Following the PlayStation Partner Awards in Japan, Furutani announced that more than one million people play the game each month. The game, Zero, also received an award for strong global sales at the event.
Considering the game came out over a year ago and isn’t constantly updated with new content or a free-to-play model, those numbers are really remarkable. It’s not surprising Bandai Namco is planning to release more downloadable content and updates in 2026.
Furutani points out that players return to Zero because it feels true to the original manga and anime, letting them relive favorite scenes. Plus, it’s just a genuinely enjoyable game that’s easy to learn and play.
He believes the game’s success hinges on how well it lets players truly feel like they’re in authentic Dragon Ball battles.
One reason this is so popular is that it’s naturally evolved to include exciting, Dragon Ball-inspired moves while still keeping the original fighting style intact.
Still playing Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero? I am! I’m super hyped to see what DLC and updates they release next. Let’s chat about it all in the comments!
