The recent Masters of the Universe movie features the legendary Sword of Grayskull, but fans know there are other incredibly powerful weapons within the franchise’s history. One of the most memorable scenes in Masters of the Universe shows Adam raising the sword to become He-Man.
I’m really impressed with Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man in Masters of the Universe! He truly embodies the character, and the sword plays a huge part in that. Of course, no one can forget the iconic line, “By the power of Grayskull, I have the power” – it’s just as famous as the sword itself! Both are such a big part of what made the 80s so memorable, and it’s been awesome seeing them updated and reimagined over the years.
The actors in Masters of the Universe are talented, but their impact depends on how important their characters are to the plot and what resources they have. The exciting battles, fueled by a unique blend of science fiction and fantasy elements, have been key to the show’s success since it began in 1982.
As a huge He-Man fan, it’s amazing to think about all the different versions of the story that exist! Each one has its own unique gadgets and weapons. While a lot of these were made for that specific version, I can definitely see some of them being cool enough to show up in future He-Man shows or movies. It really opens up the possibilities!
6. Hordak’s Laser Cannon
Hordak, once Skeletor’s teacher and sometimes an enemy in Masters of the Universe, has become more popular recently. This is largely due to his role as the main villain in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. He’s a strong and frightening character who was wronged by Skeletor, but has reappeared in many different storylines.
The most notable thing about this character is his weapon. While others in the series typically use swords and other traditional weapons, futuristic technology plays a role too. Hordak uses a laser cannon and has even changed his own body to better utilize this advanced tech.
Hordak’s lasers are far more destructive than any others we’ve seen, and their long-range power is truly terrifying. They’re strong enough to defeat the heroes despite their own weapons, and in some situations, could even surpass the Power Sword – though they aren’t quite as powerful as the other lasers on this list.
5. The Cosmic Key
The Cosmic Key, originally appearing in Masters of the Universe in 1987, is far more powerful than Adam’s Power Sword, even though it isn’t always used as a weapon. Created by Gwildor, Skeletor stole the key and used it to open portals, hoping to conquer Castle Grayskull and the entire world of Eternia.
Both the comic book and movie versions of this weapon can move people to different locations and even other dimensions, sometimes connecting to our own world. It’s also been used to strategically imprison enemies by sending them far away.
The Cosmic Key isn’t a weapon for direct combat, but it’s incredibly powerful. It allows Skeletor to control entire universes and realities, letting him conquer others in ways the Power Sword simply couldn’t.
4. She-Ra’s Sword Of Protection
Like Adam’s Sword of Power, Adora’s Sword of Protection has extra abilities. However, Adora’s sword is connected to the honor of Grayskull, not its power. When Adora transforms into She-Ra, she gains powers similar to He-Man, making her a powerful foe.
The Sword of Protection is unique not just in its slimmer shape, but also in its ability to change form. Over time, Adora’s sword has transformed into many different tools, such as shields, boomerangs, lassos, and even ladders, going beyond its use as a simple weapon.
She-Ra’s sword shares many qualities with He-Man’s, and a few extra features make it a bit stronger. However, within the world of Eternia, there are still some weapons that surpass even hers in power.
3. The Sword Of Flaws
Over the years, the Masters of the Universe comics have greatly expanded the story and background of He-Man. A notable storyline, starting in 2025, was The Sword of Flaws, which told the story of a different Power Sword – one with a purple blade.
This weapon possesses a power comparable to the Sword of Grayskull, but it’s far more unpredictable and unstable. Created as a defense against the Sword of Grayskull, this blade relies on scientific principles instead of magic. This gives it a logical resilience that allows it to effectively counter the Power Sword.
This weapon is unique to this particular comic series, though it draws inspiration from a later creation. The world of Masters of the Universe really shines in its side stories, offering thoughtful explorations of contrasting forces, balance, and the classic struggle between good and evil.
2. Skeletor’s Havoc Staff
Skeletor’s staff, a magical weapon shaped like a ram’s head and featured in the recent movie, caused a lot of trouble for He-Man. But looking at the broader history of the Masters of the Universe, from the comics and TV shows, reveals just how incredibly powerful this staff truly is.
The staff is frequently used as a close-combat weapon, and surprisingly, it’s even been able to deflect He-Man’s powerful sword. Beyond its physical use, the staff also has magical properties. Though its origins and specific powers have varied over the years, it generally acts as a channel for Skeletor’s magic.
The Havoc Staff is a tremendously powerful weapon, known for the widespread destruction it has caused throughout Eternia. Its power may come from the staff itself, or from whoever wields it. It’s considered one of the most powerful weapons in the entire Masters of the Universe universe, but it isn’t quite the strongest.
1. The Reforged Power Sword
The original He-Man toys had a backstory where He-Man’s sword wasn’t the complete weapon. Both He-Man (Prince Adam) and Skeletor each possessed one half of a powerful blade – representing good and evil. When combined, these two halves would unlock the secrets of Castle Grayskull.
While largely absent from the animated series, the concept of balancing darkness and light was a key focus in the Netflix show Masters of the Universe: Revelation. This combination allowed a stronger version of the Power Sword to wield a more intricate and unpredictable form of magic.
The story of Eternia has become more straightforward, which could be a positive change. However, it’s worth remembering that the original Power Sword was incredibly versatile – capable of great good or terrible evil – and held more of Grayskull’s power than anything we’ve seen in Masters of the Universe since.
