Okay, so this is pretty cool – two classic games just dropped on a bunch of modern consoles! One’s from the SNES, originally released in ’89, and it’s now available on Switch, the new Switch 2, PS4, PS5, and even Xbox Series X. The other is an NES title from ’86, and you can find it on Switch and PS5. Honestly, it’s a bit of a surprise to see them come back, especially since they weren’t exactly the biggest hits back in the day. It’s not like Super Mario World just randomly showed up – these were good games, but definitely not the most famous ones from those consoles.
This game started as an arcade maze title released by Taito in 1989. It’s best known as a SNES game, though it originally appeared in arcades. Many SNES players might remember it as Cameltry, as the arcade version was later brought to the SNES and X68000 in 1992. However, it wasn’t released under that name in North America or Europe; instead, it was called On the Ball. Cameltry wasn’t a huge hit in arcades, and its SNES performance wasn’t much better – it simply wasn’t very popular. Despite this, it’s been re-released as part of Hamster’s Arcade Archives 2 series on those same platforms. Dedicated fans might already own it, as it was previously included in the Arcade Archives lineup.
This classic arcade game challenges you to tilt the maze, guiding a ball to the goal before time runs out. Watch out for tricky obstacles like traps that steal your time and bumpers that send the ball flying! It’s a fresh take on ball-action games, offering a completely new experience.
NES Game Joins SNES Game in Same Day Return
Also being re-released today is Firework Thrower Kantaro’s 53 Stations of the Tokaido, a classic NES game from Sunsoft. This game was originally only available in Japan, so many Western gamers may not be familiar with it. Now, thanks to Hamster’s Console Archives series, it’s finally getting a Western release.
This classic NES game puts you in the role of Kantaro, a fireworks expert on a journey to Edo. He’s racing against time and enemies to reach the Sumida River and put on a spectacular fireworks display for his beloved, Momoko. The question is: can Kantaro make it to Edo safely and light up the sky?
If you’re thinking about getting either of these games, you’re in luck – they’re both really affordable! I just saw that one of them is only $9.99, and the other is even cheaper at $7.99. Definitely a good deal!
