Emmerdale exit revealed for evil villain tormenting village favourites after major story announcement

Caroline Harker is set to depart Emmerdale later this year, it has been reported.

According to The Sun, the actress who plays Dr. Caitlin Todd on the ITV soap will be leaving after her current storyline finishes. She’s been in the role since January of last year.

Since February, the doctor has been controlling and intimidating Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant). She also found out a damaging secret about Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and is now using it to get what she wants.

As fans of the show are aware, Charity agreed to be a surrogate for Jacob and his wife Sarah (Katie Hill), but unexpectedly became pregnant with Ross Barton’s (Michael Parr) baby instead.

Initially, Todd asked Jacob to withdraw his HR complaint in exchange for her not discussing the issue. However, she later demanded £10,000 from Charity, and quickly raised that amount to £100,000.

Charity was in serious financial trouble and first attempted to sell her pub, The Woolpack, to Kim Tate. When that deal fell through, she resorted to stealing from Caleb Miligan’s workshop.

Upcoming episodes of the show will depict a deeply disturbing sexual assault committed by Todd against Charity. Details emerged yesterday about this upsetting storyline.

Emmerdale’s producer, Sophie Roper, explained that an upcoming storyline will focus on the aftermath of sexual violence experienced by the character Charity. While acknowledging the act is rooted in an abuse of power, the show will delve into the complicated ways Charity deals with her trauma, especially given the perpetrator is another woman.

Because female-on-female assault is rarely discussed, many survivors feel incredibly alone. We’ll look at why the legal definition of sexual assault doesn’t always feel accurate to women like Charity, who feel it downplays the trauma they’ve experienced – they often feel they were raped, but the legal terms don’t fully capture that.

Even though it’s tough to watch at moments, Charity’s strength and determination will give people hope as she deals with her challenges.

ITV didn’t offer any statement about Harker leaving when asked by TopMob. However, it’s common for characters in TV shows to eventually leave as their stories come to a natural end.

Harker’s departure is part of a larger wave of cast changes on Emmerdale. Olivia Bromley and Bradley Johnson, who play Dawn Fletcher and Vinny Dingle, are also set to leave in the near future, as is Nick Miles after more than 20 years playing Jimmy King.

Patsy Kensit is coming back to the show as Sadie King, and her return will happen around the time her character leaves.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
