As a longtime fan, I’ve learned that the Star Wars galaxy is full of possibilities – it just keeps growing with new movies, shows, games, and books. For years, we fans have gotten our hopes up about certain stories or seeing favorite characters return, feeling like they were *almost* going to happen. Sometimes the creators will hint at something amazing, a deep connection to the lore we love, and it feels like everything we’ve wished for is about to come true. The internet explodes with theories and excitement! But more often than not, the story takes an unexpected turn, and while what we *do* get is usually good, it still feels like something’s missing – a glimpse of what could have been truly spectacular.
This franchise came close to delivering exactly what fans wanted several times, hinting at a perfect outcome before ultimately pulling back at the critical moment.
6) The Development Hell of Rogue Squadron
Rogue Squadron’s pilots have been fan-favorites in Star Wars games and books for years. When director Patty Jenkins was chosen to make a movie about them, it seemed like a natural fit, promising exciting space battles and bringing the classic starfighter action fans love to the big screen.
Originally, the movie was planned to come out in 2023 and was a major part of Disney and Lucasfilm’s film lineup. But it faced repeated delays and was eventually removed from the schedule, leading many to believe it was cancelled or put on hold indefinitely. The idea of seeing a film focused on a team of iconic star pilots remains a captivating, yet unrealized, hope for fans.
5) More Lore on the Whills
The Whills are mysterious, tiny creatures that represent the most profound and philosophical ideas within the Star Wars universe. According to George Lucas, they were originally intended to be the central focus of the entire story, not the Force. The idea was that the Whills and midichlorians worked together in a close, mutually beneficial relationship.
Okay, so *Rogue One* briefly introduced these beings called the Guardians of the Whills, and it felt like the movie was hinting at a much bigger story about the very core of the Force. But honestly, it barely touched the surface. It was more of a tease than a deep dive. While I’m hoping a future *Star Wars* project will really explore who the Whills are, right now, that whole cosmic mystery feels just out of reach. It definitely left me wanting more, but it didn’t deliver a full explanation.
4) The Arrival of Darth Plagueis
The story of Darth Plagueis the Wise is a crucial, yet largely unknown, part of the Star Wars prequel era. His teachings were key to Palpatine’s rise to power and eventual conquest of the galaxy. Because the events of the Disney+ series *The Acolyte* take place around the same time as Plagueis’ life, fans heavily speculated about whether he might appear in the show.
The final episode of *The Acolyte* briefly showed a mysterious figure, later revealed to be Plagueis, watching Qimir and Osha leave. However, this was just a quick, silent appearance. With the show cancelled, we’re left to wonder about his motives and full story – something that may only be explored in future projects, if ever.
3) Satine Kryze in Live-Action
Duchess Satine Kryze played a significant role in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s life and is a key figure in the history of Mandalore. She was also a central emotional character in the animated series *Star Wars: The Clone Wars*. Now that her sister, Bo-Katan Kryze, is a major character in the live-action series *The Mandalorian*, many fans expected Satine to at least be mentioned.
Even though Bo-Katan is a key figure in *The Mandalorian* and the rebuilding of Mandalore, she’s never said her sister’s name on screen. The show has repeatedly missed chances to show Bo-Katan remembering or reflecting on her sister’s sacrifice, leaving that part of the story only in animated form.
2) A Live-Action Clone Wars Series
As a huge Star Wars fan, I think *The Clone Wars* is right up there with the original movies – maybe even better! What really grabbed me was the relationship between Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano; it was so powerful. So, when the *Ahsoka* series on Disney+ showed those flashbacks of them fighting together during the war, the entire fanbase just went wild – and honestly, so did I! It was amazing to see that connection again.
The quick scenes featuring Anakin and Obi-Wan at their peak – and showing Hayden Christensen in Clone Wars armor for the first time in live-action – demonstrated how amazing a live-action adaptation of that era could be. Unfortunately, those scenes only served to advance Ahsoka’s story, and the possibility of a larger, live-action Clone Wars series remains untapped…at least for now.
1) A Crossover Between Star Wars Rebels and Andor
In the ninth episode of *Star Wars: Andor*, titled “Welcome to the Rebellion,” Cassian helps Mon Mothma escape Coruscant, following orders from Luthen Rael. This event connects to an episode of *Star Wars Rebels* called “Secret Cargo,” where the crew of the Ghost ship picks up Mon Mothma later that same day, officially establishing her commitment to the Rebellion.
The timing was perfect for the live-action versions of the Ghost crew—Hera Syndulla, Kanan Jarrus, Sabine Wren, Zeb Orrelios, and Ezra Bridger—to arrive as the team sent to rescue and transport someone. This would have been the first time seeing this entire early rebel group brought to life in live-action, but ultimately Cassian Andor was the one who ended up carrying out the rescue.
