Linda Hamilton is truly one of the toughest actors in the business. With roles in iconic films like Terminator, Children of the Corn, and Dante’s Peak, as well as the recent hit Stranger Things, she’s built a remarkably diverse career in action and science fiction. After a break from acting, she’s quietly returned to the screen, and her latest project is now streaming on Hulu.
Okay, so I checked out Osiris a little while ago, and it’s… not a masterpiece, let’s be real. It’s sitting right at 50% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is pretty much where it deserves to be. But honestly? I had a blast! It’s a total throwback to those over-the-top, gloriously cheesy 80s action movies. The story is simple: a team of special forces guys gets snatched during a mission, wakes up on an alien spaceship, and suddenly they’re the ones being hunted. They team up with other survivors and basically have to fight for their lives to avoid becoming alien food. It’s totally predictable and a little silly, but if you’re in the mood for some mindless, fun action, it delivers!
It’s A Perfectly Tropey Action Movie
The movie boasts a strong cast, including Linda Hamilton, Michael Irby, Max Martini, and LaMonica Garrett. Osiris feels like a blend of films such as Alien and Predator, almost as if a fast-paced, sci-fi video game has been brought to the screen. Critic Brent McKnight describes it as a “fun, pulpy B-movie” with impressive practical effects and references to classic sci-fi, praising director William Kaufman’s “tight, badass, and plentiful” action sequences. However, Sarah Vincent hits the nail on the head: the movie truly becomes compelling after the first hour when the characters are given a clear mission beyond just surviving, and Linda Hamilton’s performance is the main draw.
Look, sometimes you just want a fun, cheesy action movie, right? That’s exactly what Osiris is. It totally leans into all the stuff we love about 80s classics like the original Predator, but updates it to a futuristic 2025 setting. The director really knows what they’re doing – the whole thing looks fantastic. It’s not going to change your life, but it’s a perfect movie to put on when you want to unwind and have a good time.
