I’ve been watching a newer anime called Gachiakuta, and I think it has the potential to become a real classic. It started airing earlier this year, with the second part of its first season coming out in fall 2025. What really struck me is how it tackles tough subjects like social class, unfairness, and what it takes to survive and grow as a person when everything is against you. If you’re a fan of darker anime like Jujutsu Kaisen or Chainsaw Man, I definitely think you should check Gachiakuta out.
In the world of Gachiakuta, most people live in a beautiful, floating city built above a massive, bottomless chasm called the Abyss. The city’s wealthy residents constantly throw their garbage and unwanted items into the Abyss, creating a comfortable life for themselves above the waste and the people who end up there. Rudo is wrongly accused of murder and banished to the Abyss, where he must fight to survive among the trash and the creatures it attracts. While living in the Abyss, Rudo finds a community of outcasts who he hopes can help him gain the power he needs to escape and take revenge on those who betrayed him.
