7 Best Fighters in Star Trek, Ranked (Including the Only 1 To Punch Q)

When it comes to action, most people think of Star Wars first. Almost every film and series set in that galaxy features exciting lightsaber battles, and even the ones that don’t still include plenty of fighting. For example, The Mandalorian follows a bounty hunter who constantly faces dangerous opponents, but always manages to win thanks to his skills. This kind of action is similar to what you see in Star Trek, where members of Starfleet regularly find themselves in challenging and physical situations.

Starfleet’s mission is to explore the galaxy, discovering new planets and life forms. However, not everyone they encounter is friendly – some are quick to resort to violence when threatened. Here’s a ranking of the seven best fighters in the world of Star Trek.

7) Spock

Vulcans don’t typically express concern for someone’s feelings through conversation; it’s simply not how they’re wired. Instead, they excel at quickly neutralizing threats. We often see Spock use the Vulcan nerve pinch to end a fight before it escalates. He also proves a match for another character on this list in a very intense scene from the original Star Trek series.

6) Benjamin Sisko

Compared to other leaders in Star Trek, Benjamin Sisko isn’t known for being particularly calm. He’s a strict commander at the Deep Space 9 station, quick to correct his crew when necessary, but also fiercely protective of them. Sisko consistently overcomes his enemies, including his longtime rival, Gul Dukat. However, he’s most famous for actually punching Q – something almost no one else has ever done.

5) Odo

In the world of Star Trek, knowing how to fight hand-to-hand is useful, but it’s not the only way to succeed in a conflict. As the head of security on Deep Space Nine, Odo is responsible for keeping everyone safe, and he’s well-equipped for the job. His shape-shifting powers let him extend his reach, making him a formidable opponent – just ask the Changeling he disabled how effective he is.

4) Elnor

In Star Trek, Romulans often have a bad reputation and are seen as instigators. However, Captain Jean-Luc Picard refuses to judge them and actually becomes an ally after their home world is destroyed. Elnor, a Romulan trained by the Qowat Milat, develops a strong respect for Picard and assists him during a dangerous rescue mission. Elnor’s battle against the Zhat Vash is particularly noteworthy, as he bravely confronts a formidable enemy.

3) James T. Kirk

Playing Captain Kirk in Star Trek has its advantages, and one of them is that he’s always winning fights! He first gained recognition for battling the Gorn in the first season of The Original Series, and he’s also known for his confrontations with Spock and Khan. Even though he’s just a regular human, Kirk consistently knows when to fight for what’s right and how to win.

2) Data

Characters in Star Trek who prefer to use intelligence over force often end up in physical confrontations anyway. Data, the android on the USS EnterpriseE in Star Trek: The Next Generation*, is surprisingly skilled in combat, thanks to his strong build and fast reflexes. The episode “A Fist Full of Datas” exemplifies this, showing him confidently handling a fight in a Western-themed scenario.

1) Worf

Every character in Star Trek is essentially competing to be second best, as there’s no one clearly at the top. Worf, the Klingon security officer from The Next Generation, is a formidable warrior who almost always wins his fights. He can easily defeat anyone, from fellow Klingons to Jem’Hadar soldiers, even when facing multiple opponents at once. In the dangerous world of Star Trek, you’d definitely want Worf on your side.
