Marvel Comics consistently introduces a wide array of new heroes and villains to keep its universe exciting and attract readers. Since 2020, the company has created many fresh superheroes with compelling backgrounds, distinct personalities, and unique powers, ensuring their lasting appeal. These characters are often woven into the stories of established heroes like the X-Men and Captain America, yet still maintain their own individual identities. Several have even starred in their own successful comic book series. From mutants to supporting characters, Marvel is building the foundation for a new wave of heroes.
I’m already so impressed with the new superheroes Marvel Comics has given us in just the first few years of the 2020s! It feels like they’ve created characters who will truly become classics and stay popular for years to come.
7) Calico

I’m so excited about Marvel’s new team, the Outliers! They’re a group of young mutants on the run, and one member, Becca Simon-Pinette, is particularly fascinating. She had a tough upbringing – her parents didn’t approve of mutants, and she grew up mostly alone except for her horse, Ember. Sadly, Ember died in a fire, but it unlocked Becca’s incredible powers. Now, she can manifest Ember as a psychic construct – almost like a ghost of her beloved horse! It’s amazing because Ember can take on different forms, even a flaming Pegasus, and Becca can also create weapons and armor from these constructs. At first, Becca really struggled with being a mutant and kept to herself, but she’s learning to accept who she is and is becoming a real asset to the Outliers and the X-Men. It’s a really powerful story!
6) Spider-Boy

Bailey Briggs, also known as Spider-Boy, is one of the latest Spider-Heroes to join Marvel’s universe. When he first appeared in 2023, he surprisingly claimed to have a past with Peter Parker, even though no one recognized him. It was later revealed that Bailey gained spider-like powers from a scientist and had actually been Peter Parker’s sidekick for years. He was then erased from existence by a magical weapon, causing everyone to forget him. After being brought back, Bailey faced the difficult task of reconnecting with his friends and family. With a blend of humor and heartache, Spider-Boy has all the potential to become a truly memorable hero.
5) Ransom

Valentin Correa, known as Ransom, is a powerful new mutant hero who emerged in 2024 and is poised to become a leader – potentially even of the X-Men. He possesses a unique ability: instead of a heart, he has a black hole that allows him to absorb and convert any form of energy into incredible strength. Abandoned as a child by his wealthy, mutant-hating parents after being kidnapped, Valentin was forced to defend himself against his captors, resulting in their deaths. Years later, he and his team, the Outliers, turned to the X-Men for help battling a dangerous enemy called the Hag. A natural leader and strong enough to defeat even Wolverine, Valentin has the potential to become a key figure in future X-Men stories.
4) Hunter’s Moon

After Marc Spector, the Moon Knight, separated from the Egyptian moon god Khonshu, Yehya Badr, also known as Hunter’s Moon, became Khonshu’s new champion. First appearing in 2021, Yehya began as a vampire hunter and an enemy of Moon Knight. But after witnessing Moon Knight’s kindness and realizing not all vampires are evil, Yehya had a change of heart. He became a hero, a close friend to Moon Knight, and a protector of those who travel at night. He even briefly took on the role of Moon Knight himself after the original hero was defeated. With his interesting story and fighting abilities, Yehya has become a popular and valuable ally to Moon Knight.
3) Valkyrie (Rūna)

Following the death of the original Valkyrie, Brunnhilde, in 2019, a new hero named Rūna took on the mantle in 2021. Inspired by Tessa Thompson’s portrayal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Rūna is revealed to be one of the first nine Valkyries who protected Asgard. She had been trapped inside an undead Celestial for millennia but was freed by Jane Foster and subsequently fought alongside her against the villain Knull. Rūna is a skilled warrior who wields the powerful axe Jarnbjorn, capable of cutting through nearly any substance. Though initially created to connect more closely with the MCU, Rūna has quickly become a strong and interesting hero in the comics on her own.
2) Captain America (Aaron Fischer)

The 2021 series United States of Captain America featured several new heroes taking on the role of Captain America, and Aaron Fischer quickly stood out. Aaron, a teenage runaway escaping an abusive home, began traveling the country. Witnessing the mistreatment of people experiencing homelessness, he created his own shield and became known as the Captain America of the Railways, dedicated to protecting them. He fought alongside the original Captain America, Steve Rogers, joined the Captains Network, and eventually attended Avengers Academy. As a champion for the forgotten and marginalized, Aaron is a truly inspiring hero who rightfully earns the title of Captain America.
1) Bloodline

Brielle Brooks, also known as Bloodline, is the daughter of the famous vampire hunter Blade and began her own heroic journey in 2022. Like her father, she possesses all the strengths of a vampire without any of the weaknesses. After her powers emerged, Brielle connected with Blade and quickly became a target for vampires. He trained her to control her abilities and use various weapons. When Blade was taken over by the powerful vampire Varnae and threatened to conquer the world, Brielle bravely stepped forward to save both humanity and her father. Their relationship has been a particularly moving and complicated father-daughter story in Marvel Comics, and Brielle has quickly established herself as a compelling and skilled hero.
