Filmspotting’s Alan Kempenaar notes the film is “silly, but played with sincerity, and everyone involved understands they’re making a crowd-pleasing genre film… aiming to simply be a fun take on the classic Western lone gunman, but as a bouncer.” Mark Jackson of Epoch Times adds that the film “captures the romanticized feel of the Wild West: two tough but polite Southern men, sharing stories and showing their scars while trying to impress a woman.”

Critics have pointed out that the film’s over-the-top violence and disregard for the law feel silly today. However, that’s exactly what makes Road House so enjoyable!
