Everyone needs a truly cheesy action movie now and then—one that’s so wonderfully bad, it’s become a classic. And with stars like Patrick Swayze, Kelly Lynch, and Sam Elliott, it doesn’t get much better! But don’t wait—it’s leaving Tubi soon and will only be available on YouTube Premium.
Okay, let’s talk about Road House, that totally ’80s action flick everyone remembers. It’s about Dalton, a cool, smart bouncer who isn’t just about muscles – he’s a bit of a thinker too. He gets hired to clean up a really rough bar called The Double Deuce, and he takes the job seriously, quickly establishing order. But things get complicated when he falls for the local doc, and that puts him on a collision course with the town’s biggest troublemaker, Brad Wesley. It’s a classic setup, and honestly, it delivers exactly what you’d expect – and enjoy!
Road House Is A Ridiculously Good Time
Don’t be put off by the 49% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Road House is a delightfully cheesy and entertaining way to spend an hour and 52 minutes. While critics weren’t impressed, audiences enjoyed it more, giving it a 67% rating on the Popcornmeter. Filmspotting’s Alan Kempenaar notes the film is “silly, but played with sincerity, and everyone involved understands they’re making a crowd-pleasing genre film… aiming to simply be a fun take on the classic Western lone gunman, but as a bouncer.” Mark Jackson of Epoch Times adds that the film “captures the romanticized feel of the Wild West: two tough but polite Southern men, sharing stories and showing their scars while trying to impress a woman.”
Critics have pointed out that the film’s over-the-top violence and disregard for the law feel silly today. However, that’s exactly what makes Road House so enjoyable! It’s a delightfully ridiculous 80s action movie, and a unique one at that. Be sure to watch it on Tubi before it’s gone – you don’t know how long it will be available!
