Gege Akutami, the mastermind behind Jujutsu Kaisen, left fans spellbound when he declared his intention to revisit the supernatural realm with a fresh manga. What truly took everyone by surprise was not just the return to the universe that catapulted Yuji Itadori and Jujutsu Tech into mainstream anime popularity, but also the fact that Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo is a continuation of the original narrative’s events. Although an anime adaptation for this new tale is yet to be officially announced, there are several intriguing developments in the new manga that warrant attention and discussion.
Aliens!?!
In the original “Jujutsu Kaisen”, there were plenty of monstrous entities that could easily be confused with creatures from another planet. However, in this fresh take, Modulo has infused actual aliens into the storyline. Introducing the Simurians, an alien race numbering 50,000, who have landed on Earth in a spaceship in this future narrative. The character Inspector Marulu Val Vol Yelvori, disguised as an alien, is already part of the scene. This series now promises a clash between the supernatural and extraterrestrial beings, reminiscent of “Dandadan”. This unexpected twist undoubtedly grabs readers’ interest right from the start.
The Stars of the Series
In the latest installment of the series, we meet Yuka and Tsurugi, who, while not yet reaching the power levels of characters such as Yuji, Sukuna, and Gojo, are capable of standing on their own. Interestingly, these siblings don’t always see eye to eye, often leading to physical altercations between them. Despite their strained relationship, they seem promising protagonists, ready to uphold the legacy set by Yuji, Megumi, Nobara, and their grandparents. Incidentally, let’s not forget about those remarkable ancestors…
Yuta and Maki Are Yuka And Tsurugi’s Grandparents
In an unexpected turn of events, sixty-eight years after Sukuna’s defeat, it is revealed that Yuta and Maki have developed a romantic relationship. Now that their grandchildren are the main characters, there’s speculation about what became of the original heroes and if they had children. Given their contrasting personalities, the idea of them forming a family together seems quite unexpected, yet it might not be as shocking as their current circumstances suggest.
Yuta And Maki Are Dead
After a significant time had elapsed since the finale of the initial series, it appears that Maki and Yuta perished when Yuka was ten years old. Maki preceded Yuta in death, and eventually, even the Grim Reaper claimed Yuta’s life. At Yuta’s funeral, someone commented, “Ever since Grandma Maki departed, he seemed to be growing weaker day by day. We never thought Maki would pass away first.” With these major side characters now absent, the brother and sister protagonists have some large roles to fulfill following their departure.
The Aliens Rival Sukuna
During Tsurugi’s struggle against the malicious sorcerer, it is revealed that an extraterrestrial force has invaded Earth. As hinted before, the Simurians have indeed arrived at our world, and they should not be underestimated. The villain of the chapter explains that the Inspector General classifies this alien invasion as a top-tier incident, comparable to the attack by Ryomen Sukuna 68 years ago – a revelation which could pose a significant issue for Tsurugi in the upcoming storyline of “Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo.
Sorcerers Are Far Weaker Now
Compared to the exceptional fighters like Yuji Itadori, Suguru Geto, Satoru Gojo, Yuta Okkotsu, and others from Jujutsu Kaisen, it’s not surprising that the new generation isn’t quite as skilled yet. In the latest chapter, the main villain explains how the previous generation stood out during The Culling Game, a significant event that took place 68 years ago and led to the treaty. Gojo and Itadori put an end to it, but who is as extraordinary as they are nowadays in Japan? When people realize how weak modern sorcerers have become, this new energy business will fail because the value of Japanese citizens will decrease dramatically. With no way to earn money, the villain has no choice but to abandon his plans.
Yuka And Tsurugi Will Fight Anytime, Anywhere
Observing them closely, it’s evident that these siblings share a special bond, yet they seem to constantly challenge each other at the least opportune moments. Before the climactic skirmish in the first chapter unfolds, Tsurugi and Yuka engage in a brief sparring session. It’s plain as day that Maki and Yuta harbor contrasting opinions regarding who should carry on the family legacy, and this dispute is deeply rooted in their ongoing storyline.
