James Gunn’s decision to feature a team called the Justice Gang instead of the Justice League in the Superman movie sparked a lot of curiosity among DC fans about who would be on the team. A painting in the Hall of Justice hinted at a history of heroes connected to this group. However, the fact that Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn) was funding the team suggested it was inspired by, and loosely based on, the classic DC Comics Justice League International, leaving fans to speculate about potential new members.
As a big fan of Peacemaker Season 2, I was really following the Justice Gang’s search for new members. It’s been a while since Superman left, and while Metamorpho joined Guy Gardner, Mr. Terrific, and Hawkgirl, they haven’t really added anyone else. That got me thinking about who else could be awesome additions to the Justice League now that James Gunn is building his DCU. Here are seven heroes I think would be a perfect fit.
7) Fire & Ice

Fire and Ice would be a welcome addition to the DC Universe. Fire, whose real name is Beatriz Bonilla da Costa, is a Brazilian hero and former spy who gained fire powers after an accident. She became close friends with Ice, a Norwegian hero who developed her powers as a child, while working with the international team, the Global Guardians. Together, they make a strong team and could bring a unique dynamic to the Justice League.
6) Vixen

Vixen is a DC hero who doesn’t get enough recognition, and she could be a valuable addition to the Justice League. She might even help the team become more mindful of their ethics, something a couple of members could use. Mari McCabe is a supermodel with a unique ability: the Tantu Totem. This totem links her to all living things and lets her take on the characteristics of any animal. However, there’s a catch – when she gains an animal’s power, she also takes on its instincts and personality. This can make it difficult to stay in control, and she sometimes struggles to avoid becoming overly aggressive. Because of this, she actively avoids harming others, which is a contrast to heroes like Hawkgirl, who are willing to kill villains.
5) Animal Man

James Gunn could really do something great with Animal Man, a lesser-known DC hero. Like Vixen, he can mimic the abilities of any animal, but instead of becoming the animal like Beast Boy, he simply gains their powers. This makes him a potentially incredibly strong, fast, and skilled fighter. What sets him apart, though, is that he’s a pretty strange character, linked to a mysterious force called the “Red,” similar to how Swamp Thing is connected to the “Green.” He’s even broken the fourth wall in the comics, making him uniquely quirky and a good fit for Gunn’s unconventional approach to the Justice League.
4) Plastic Man

For much of his career, Plastic Man has been known as a funny, lighthearted hero for DC Comics. But there’s actually a surprising amount of depth to his character. He used to be a criminal before an accident gave him the ability to stretch and change his shape into anything he can think of. He’s also carrying a lot of hidden pain, which he masks with sarcasm and jokes that can sometimes irritate other heroes. In fact, he’s probably the perfect person to really get under Guy Gardner’s skin on the Justice League team.
3) Black Canary

As a DC Comics fanatic and a movie critic, I’ve always been excited about Black Canary’s potential. She’s a character a lot of fans already know and love, thanks to appearances in classic Justice League animated series and her significant role in the Arrowverse. What’s really interesting is her family history – she’s a second-generation hero, inheriting the Black Canary mantle from her mother. And let’s talk about her powers – her sonic scream is devastating, capable of not just breaking objects but, if she really pushes it, even being lethal. Honestly, the biggest obstacle to her joining a team like the Justice League isn’t her abilities, it’s her strong will – she’s not the type to take orders from someone like Guy Gardner, and I respect that!
2) Blue Beetle

Blue Beetle would be a great addition to the Justice League, but it should be the original version, Ted Kord. There’s some confusion about what DC plans for the character, as an animated series featuring Jaime Reyes—a holdover from the previous DC movie universe—is reportedly in development. However, Ted Kord was also part of that earlier story, and it would be fantastic to see him team up with some of his long-time friends in the League.
1) Booster Gold

Booster Gold should definitely be included in the new Justice League lineup, regardless of whether Blue Beetle joins. James Gunn has indicated Booster Gold is planned for a future role, though the timing and details are still unknown. He’d be a great fit alongside Blue Beetle (Ted Kord), but he’d also create fantastic conflict as a rival to current team member Guy Gardner. Both characters see themselves as leaders, and their constant clashes would add a lot of drama and entertainment to the team dynamic.
