7 Lost Justice League Members We Need to See More Of

The Justice League is DC Comics’ premier team of superheroes, historically featuring iconic figures like Batman and Superman. Originally an exclusive group of the universe’s most powerful heroes, it has since grown into the Justice League Unlimited, welcoming any hero dedicated to making a positive impact. This expansion allows lesser-known characters, such as Damage and Air Wave, to prove themselves. The League even extends opportunities to reformed villains, aiming for complete redemption and collaborative world-saving efforts.

It’s true that with so many lesser-known heroes gaining attention, some fan favorites inevitably get overlooked as stories progress. We want to change that! Today, we’re highlighting seven former Justice League members who deserve a chance to shine again. While they may be part of the larger DC Universe, they haven’t had much screen time recently. Each of these heroes offers unique strengths, and we’ll explore what makes them special.

7) Rocket Red

Rocket Red began as the name for a group of Russian heroes created by Green Lantern Killowag, and featured powerful suits of armor. Dmitri Pushkin was one of the first members and fought alongside the Justice League International for years before making the ultimate sacrifice. Later, Gavril Ivanovich took on the Rocket Red mantle, becoming a more independent hero driven to protect Russia from internal problems – similar to Captain America’s mission. With most superheroes originating in America, it’s refreshing to see heroes representing other nations. Rocket Red is visually impressive with his incredible suit and deserves wider recognition.

6) Major Disaster

Major Disaster began as a villain in the Green Lantern comics, causing disasters by manipulating chance. Surprisingly, he later got a chance to be a hero, joining the Justice League and genuinely changing his ways. He remained a hero until he died. However, when the DC universe was rebooted (the New 52), he reverted to being a villain, which is disappointing. It’s rare to see villains truly become heroes, and Major Disaster’s story shows how even small-time villains can become positive forces. He wasn’t about grand, world-saving feats, but the support he received helped him improve, highlighting a common and important idea in superhero stories: people can change for the better.

5) Aztek

Uno, also known as Aztek, was raised by a secret group called the Q Society to become the champion of the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl. He wore a powerful suit combining high-tech gear with ancient magic, giving him abilities like super strength and energy attacks. What’s really cool about his helmet is that it held the memories and personalities of everyone who wore it before – a great blend of myth and science! While DC Comics often mixes magic and technology, Aztek uniquely brings these ideas together. He’s a truly one-of-a-kind hero who played a vital role in stopping Mageddon, and his connection to Lex Luthor is a story just waiting to be told.

4) Tomorrow Woman

I’ve always been fascinated by Tomorrow Woman. She was built by T.O. Morrow and Ivo as this super-advanced android meant to take down the Justice League from within. But the really cool part is, she actually developed a sense of freedom and decided to be a hero instead! She even gave her life to save the League, which was all part of Morrow’s twisted plan to prove he was a better inventor – he built her to seem like she had a soul. It’s interesting because her story is a little like Red Tornado’s, but they could have really explored that contrast and what it truly means to be a hero. We barely scratched the surface of what she could do, and I think her journey to understand what it means to be human could have been an amazing storyline.

3) Ambush Bug

Forget what you’ve heard – DC Comics already has a character like Deadpool, and it’s not Harley Quinn or Superboy-Prime. It’s Ambush Bug! He was DC’s first character to playfully acknowledge he’s in a comic book. Ambush Bug has the power to teleport, but it’s mostly just random luck. He bounces around the DC Universe, trying to fight crime and mostly just getting on everyone’s nerves. He’s a real nuisance, but a funny and strangely endearing one. Ambush Bug is one of DC’s best comedic characters, and while he doesn’t need to be a regular team member, it would be great to see him star in occasional standalone stories.

2) Monkey Prince

Monkey Prince is the son of the famous Monkey King and serves as a great introduction to the stories of Journey to the West. He’s incredibly powerful and versatile – he can even shapeshift like a classic cartoon character, with limbs that can detach! His parents were both villains, which creates interesting conflict in his story. Plus, his grandfather is Ultra-Humanite, a surprisingly strong villain who doesn’t get enough credit. Despite being a relatively new hero, Monkey Prince hasn’t gotten the attention he deserves and has been overlooked.

1) Zauriel

Zauriel is an angel who became a superhero by living as a human. First appearing in Grant Morrison’s acclaimed JLA comics, he’s a fresh take on the character Hawkman and deserves more attention. He embodies a wonderfully positive spirit – even when facing heartbreak, like when he selflessly let go of a woman who loved another, he remained gracious. Zauriel is a consistently hopeful and uplifting warrior, and one of DC’s most compelling characters who could benefit from further development. He’s my favorite version of Hawkman.
