7 Marvel Characters With the Biggest Egos, Ranked

As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve noticed a really interesting trend: a lot of the most powerful characters also have massive egos! It seems like every time a hero or villain wins, it just makes them think even more highly of themselves. They rarely show any humility, and they’re always quick to brag about how amazing they are, whether they actually deserve the praise or not. And honestly, it often leads to their downfall! You’d think they’d learn, but they just keep on talking about how they’re the best, no matter what. It’s a frustrating, but strangely endearing, part of what makes these characters so compelling.

It’s not just villains who have huge egos – many Marvel superheroes think they’re the only ones who can save the day. While some characters have learned to be more humble, others remain stubbornly self-centered, even though it creates problems for themselves and everyone around them.

7) Iron Man

It’s hardly surprising that Tony Stark, a brilliant, wealthy, and charismatic figure, has a large ego. A major weakness in his character is his tendency to overestimate his own abilities and believe he’s always the most capable person. While he genuinely wants to solve global issues, his pride often leads him to dismiss the expertise of others or disregard their concerns. Despite his intelligence, moments like those seen in Civil War and World War Hulk demonstrate how his poor judgment can lead to serious consequences, including unintended harm and loss of life. Ultimately, Iron Man is aware of his own incredible intelligence, power, and influence.

6) Beast

Look, I’ve always been a fan of Beast – he’s a genius, and let’s face it, a pretty impressive physical specimen. But lately, watching his story unfold has been really disheartening. It’s like his intelligence went to his head. He genuinely believes every questionable, even terrible, decision he makes is for the best, for mutants, and that’s where things start to go wrong. He’s pushed away his teammates, convinced he’s the only one smart enough to lead, and the consequences are devastating – people are getting hurt, people are dying. It’s gotten to the point where his ego is so inflated, he’s created a council of clones of himself just so he can hear opinions that echo his own. It’s a tragic fall from grace, honestly.

5) Odin

Although Odin sent his son, Thor, to Earth to learn humility, the powerful All-Father is incredibly arrogant. As the God of Wisdom, Odin firmly believes he’s always correct and doesn’t tolerate being questioned, even by other Asgardians. He sees mortals as insignificant, demonstrated by his disapproval of Thor’s relationship with Jane Foster and his manipulative treatment of Iron Man. Odin has openly stated that humans mean nothing to him. It’s ironic, then, that he might be the one who needs to learn a lesson in humility.

4) Namor

Namor, the King of Atlantis, is never shy about boasting his importance. Growing up as Atlantean royalty, he naturally developed a strong sense of self-importance. He frequently emphasizes his noble lineage and considers most people beneath him, especially those who live on land. While his power and the success of Atlantis often justify his confidence, Namor’s pride, quick temper, and unwillingness to compromise frequently cause him to act as a villain and clash with other heroes. His ego is truly immense, rivaling the vastness of the ocean itself.

3) Apocalypse

Apocalypse, the first mutant ever recorded, believes he represents the peak of evolution. He lives by the principle of ‘survival of the fittest,’ placing himself above everyone else – both humans and mutants. For millennia, people around the world have worshipped him as a god, and he’s done nothing to stop them. He constantly refers to himself in the third person and insists that everyone praise him as a god and savior, even though he’s incredibly cruel. Apocalypse won’t be satisfied until the whole world acknowledges him as the one true god and submits to his rule.

2) Thanos

Thanos, the Mad Titan, is incredibly arrogant and destructive. He’s immensely proud of the countless lives he’s taken throughout the universe and sees himself as a god, repeatedly referring to himself as one. He believes he deserves ultimate power, spending years trying to acquire objects like the Cosmic Cube and the Infinity Gauntlet. Once he obtains these powerful weapons, his arrogance grows even further, impairing his judgment and making him increasingly erratic. Adding to his inflated ego, Thanos believes he’s the only one worthy of Lady Death’s affection, and her interest in Deadpool deeply enrages him.

1) Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom is arguably the most arrogant character in all of fiction. He’s incredibly intelligent and powerful, possessing advanced technology and magical abilities, but at his heart, Doom is defined by his overwhelming pride. He wants to rule the world because he genuinely believes he’s the only one capable of doing it effectively. His rivalry with the Fantastic Four stems from his inability to accept that Reed Richards might be more intelligent, and he’s demonstrated his ego through actions like renaming his country’s capital after himself, referring to himself in the third person, and declaring himself a god-like ruler. Even when he lost his godlike powers, Doom dismissed them as being beneath him, showcasing the sheer scale of his arrogance.
