7 Marvel Characters Wolverine Should Have a Relationship With

Wolverine is famous for being a bit of a ladies’ man in the Marvel Universe. While he’s best known for his feelings for Jean Grey and his relationship with Mariko Yashida, he’s had many other romantic connections – from one-night stands to longer relationships – with a wide variety of characters. Despite being gruff, short, and not exactly known for his pleasant scent, Wolverine has surprisingly done well for himself in the dating world, attracting both heroes, ordinary people, and even villains like Mystique. He truly is a master of romance, in his own way.

As a huge Wolverine fan, I’ve always been a little frustrated with how Marvel handles his love life. They never seem committed to any long-term relationships for him, and honestly, it feels like they’re not quite sure what to do with it! Logan travels all over the Marvel Universe and meets so many incredible people, there’s a ton of potential for really interesting romances. I’ve been thinking about it, and here are seven Marvel characters I think would make amazing partners for him, and finally give his love life some exciting new directions.

7) Hercules

Marvel’s Hercules is a popular god, and recently came out as bisexual, which feels natural for his character. Fans loved it when Marvel previously explored a romance between Hercules and Wolverine in an alternate universe, and many have wanted to see them together ever since. Some believe it’s time Marvel made that relationship official. A bisexual portrayal of Wolverine, coupled with Hercules, would be exciting, as they share similarities and Hercules’ kind nature would complement Wolverine’s tough exterior. While considered a surprising pairing by some, this relationship could revitalize Wolverine’s story.

6) Typhoid Mary

Typhoid Mary is a fascinating mutant character in Marvel, often appearing as an enemy of Daredevil and other heroes. Her dissociative identity disorder manifests as distinct personalities, each with telekinetic and pyrokinetic abilities. Many fans believe she’d be a great romantic match for Wolverine – he’s often attracted to redheads, and she’s a mutant who could benefit from his help. A relationship could offer her support and potentially bring her closer to the X-Men. This pairing feels natural for both characters and has the potential to become very popular with fans.

5) Madame Masque

Madame Masque is a compelling villain in the Marvel Universe, best known for her conflicts with Iron Man and her complicated connection with the Hood. Born Whitney Frost, the daughter of Count Nefaria, she often works as a covert operative for shadowy organizations. It’s surprising she hasn’t crossed paths with Wolverine more often, as they’d be natural rivals. Their dynamic could even mirror Wolverine’s past relationship with Mystique – a strong, undeniable attraction complicated by a long-standing feud. Madame Masque fits well within Wolverine’s world, and exploring a romantic connection between them would add another layer of excitement to their rivalry.

5) Mary Jane

It’s pretty clear that Marvel’s current editorial team doesn’t seem to like Mary Jane Watson. For years, they’ve portrayed her negatively, making her appear as someone who consistently harms Spider-Man. Her relationship with Paul is particularly poorly written and stands out as one of the worst in Marvel comics. It seems Marvel won’t reunite Spider-Man and Mary Jane until those who dislike her, like Joe Quesada, are no longer with the company. Since a reconciliation with Peter Parker isn’t happening anytime soon, the author suggests pairing her with Wolverine. As a redhead who has previously attracted his attention, a relationship isn’t far-fetched. While fans would likely be upset, Marvel doesn’t seem concerned about alienating Mary Jane’s supporters. The author believes this pairing could actually benefit both characters, at least temporarily.

3) Elektra

Elektra is a fantastic Marvel character, but Marvel hasn’t given her the attention she deserves. While her connection with Daredevil is famous for both of them, it often hinders her own development, pulling her into his stories and overshadowing her unique adventures. It’s time for her to move beyond being a love interest in his life. A relationship with Wolverine would actually be a good fit; they’re both skilled martial artists haunted by tragic pasts. They have a history – she even helped him manage a difficult period in the 1990s – and would be a powerful team. Importantly, unlike Daredevil, Wolverine wouldn’t ask her to adopt a male hero’s identity while he’s away. She has the potential to grow significantly with Logan, but staying connected to Daredevil will likely lead to stagnation.

2) Spider-Woman

Wolverine and Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) share a surprisingly deep connection that many comic book fans aren’t aware of. After a problem with her powers led her to Madripoor, she worked as a detective and became close with Wolverine and a friend of his named Lindsay. They developed a strong bond, but this history was largely overlooked when Spider-Woman returned in New Avengers. Wolverine and Spider-Woman have a long-standing friendship, and a renewed relationship with Logan could help boost her popularity and keep her a prominent character.

1) Captain Marvel

Marvel hasn’t always treated its female characters well, but has been working to improve in recent years. This effort led to Carol Danvers becoming Captain Marvel, a prominent hero. However, her romantic relationships haven’t been very successful, making a pairing with Wolverine a potentially great fit. They already share a strong connection – Carol sought help from the X-Men after a difficult period, regaining her confidence and developing new abilities. Wolverine even supported her through struggles with alcoholism in the late 90s, following years of inconsistent character development. Their friendship is already solid, and exploring a romantic relationship could be a natural and rewarding next step.
