For years, comic book fans have debated which characters would win in a fight if heroes from Marvel and DC Comics could battle each other without limits. Thankfully, the publishers have occasionally allowed these crossovers, though the outcomes of famous matchups like Superman versus the Hulk or Batman versus Captain America weren’t always what people expected. Today, Marvel and DC continue to team up for events that satisfy fans’ curiosity about seeing their favorite characters interact.
Instead of simply having Marvel and DC characters interact, let’s consider which characters would actually flourish more creatively in the other’s universe. While Marvel hasn’t necessarily ignored certain villains – though some could argue they have – these characters might find even greater storytelling opportunities within DC’s world, even as major antagonists in large-scale events.
7) The Maker

The Maker is considered one of Marvel’s most compelling villains of the 21st century. He’s such a powerful antagonist that some believe he’d be even more effective in the DC universe. Ideally, his Marvel history – a tragic fall from grace as a former hero who understands the multiverse and the impact of choices – should remain intact, providing a rich backstory for his villainous actions.
DC Comics generally handles large-scale, multiversal stories more effectively, and isn’t afraid to bring in heroes from different realities (like they recently did with DC Kill-A-Lot). Bringing in The Maker would create a compelling villain for DC’s versions of characters like Reed Richards – specifically, someone like Mister Terrific, who would be a natural and strong rival for him.
6) Kraven the Hunter

As a huge cinema fan, I’ve always thought Kraven the Hunter was a compelling Spider-Man villain, but he feels a little overlooked these days. Honestly, I think he’d really shine in the DC Universe. He’s fought a lot of Marvel heroes, but imagine him going up against Batman, Wonder Woman, or The Flash – that would be incredible! What’s even more exciting is the idea of him not just challenging the DC heroes, but also taking on villains like Cheetah, Killer Croc, or Man-Bat. And the thought of him discovering Gorilla City? That’s a storyline I’d pay to see!
5) Purple Man

Sometimes, a villain is so powerful from the start that there’s nowhere for their abilities to grow, which can limit storytelling possibilities. Zebediah Killgrave, also known as The Purple Man, is a good example. His mind control powers were immediately incredibly strong, making him one of Marvel’s most formidable villains – so much so that he’s appeared as much in the last five years as he did in his first thirty-six. Because Marvel hasn’t really found a way to use him effectively (many consider his best story to be his role in the Alias series), perhaps DC Comics could find a way to make him work. One hero who might be a perfect match against him is Green Lantern, not just because of their similarly colorful names, but because heroes with exceptionally strong willpower are often able to resist The Purple Man’s control.
4) Bolivar Trask

First appearing in X-Men #14 in 1965, Bolivar Trask feels like a relic in the modern X-Men universe, which has become much more complex. While his creation, the Sentinels, remains important, the character himself has largely served his purpose. If Trask existed within the DC Universe, he’d find a world already full of super-powered individuals who are generally accepted. This would likely push him to team up with other villains who share his extreme views, such as Lex Luthor or Maxwell Lord, and utilize his scientific skills for more nefarious purposes.
3) Hit-Monkey

Hit-Monkey walks the line between hero and villain, but most fans agree he doesn’t appear often enough in Marvel comics—his last official appearance was in 2018’s Domino #1. While Marvel’s mercenary characters are usually dominated by Deadpool and Bullseye, DC seems to handle animal characters better and could offer Hit-Monkey a more consistent role. DC already features several regularly appearing mercenaries like Deathstroke and Deadshot, and Hit-Monkey would fit right in with a team like the Suicide Squad. Plus, he’d instantly have a built-in rivalry with Detective Chimp if he switched to DC.
2) Stilt-Man

Stilt-Man, a long-time Daredevil foe, has surprisingly become a beloved character, largely due to his unusual obsession with extending his legs. While a recent comic book run successfully updated him for modern audiences, many fans still enjoy the original, more quirky version of the character. Though his style feels outdated in today’s Marvel universe, DC Comics has shown that there’s still a place for these kinds of classic villains. If Kite-Man, a similarly obscure character, can become popular enough to star in his own animated show, there’s hope for Stilt-Man as well.
1) The Void

As a huge cinema fan, I’ve always been fascinated by characters with immense power, and The Void, the dark side of The Sentry, is definitely one of those. He’s so powerful, writers often avoid fully utilizing him because he’s a real narrative problem. But honestly, if he were introduced into the DC Universe, he wouldn’t be alone in being able to destroy everything – there are already several characters like that. Plus, The Sentry’s backstory – this forgotten hero erased from history – actually fits surprisingly well within the DC continuity. I can easily see him as a major antagonist for the Justice League, or even a worthy opponent for Darkseid. But it’s also fun to think about him potentially teaming up with heroes who know they’re in a comic book, like Animal Man, Ambush Bug, or Lobo. That could be a really interesting dynamic.
