Bucky’s drive to be a hero comes directly from feeling awful about what he did as the Winter Soldier, and finding out Bucky was still alive completely changed where Steve’s story went. Honestly, I think Bucky’s time as a villain ended up defining the journeys of a lot of the heroes we love in the MCU.
