The Amazing Spider-Man is known for being one of the most genuinely good, hopeful, and unselfish superheroes around. His friendly personality and determination make him a prime example of a hero in Marvel Comics. However, even someone as virtuous as Spider-Man has evil counterparts in different universes. These versions range from disturbed criminals to monstrous beings – all terrifying Web-Heads who ignored the important lesson about using power responsibly. Instead, they misuse their abilities without caring about others and represent pure evil within the wider Spider-Verse.
As a huge superhero movie fan, I’ve noticed pretty much every hero has their dark side explored in different universes – and Spider-Man is definitely one of them! Considering how many versions of Spidey there are across the multiverse, it’s not shocking that some of those Web-Heads turned out to be seriously messed up or just plain bad guys.
7) Darkhold Spider-Man

In a dark version of the Spider-Man story, set on Earth-73640, Spider-Man’s desperate attempts to save New York City lead to his own madness. A catastrophic event called “The Unraveling” caused everything – people and objects alike – to start falling apart. Spider-Man, one of the few unaffected, began tirelessly covering the entire city in webbing, desperately trying to hold everything together. Because the webbing dissolved after only 24 hours, he was forced to repeat this exhausting process day after day, for decades. This endless cycle eventually drove him insane. Ultimately, Spider-Man captured Mr. Fantastic and wove him directly into the city-wide web, keeping New York intact but trapping Mr. Fantastic in a living nightmare – a fate worse than death – all because Spider-Man couldn’t bear to let anyone perish.
6) Doppelganger

This version of Spider-Man is far more monstrous than human. Created during the “Infinity War” by the villain Magnus using the Infinity Gauntlet, Doppelganger is a terrifying clone of Spider-Man. He has six arms, incredibly sharp webbing, and animalistic instincts. Despite being killed repeatedly, he always returns, driven by a relentless hunger for victims. As a purely savage killer, Doppelganger was one of Carnage’s recruits for a massive, city-wide slaughter that resulted in hundreds of deaths.
5) Spider

The Spider is a terrifying villain from the Weapon X team, created by merging Peter Parker with the serial killer Cletus Cassidy. In this alternate reality (Earth-15), Peter Parker became a cruel killer before gaining spider-powers. Combining that with the Carnage symbiote made him even more dangerous. The Spider is a monstrous killer who enjoys causing pain and death, and was sentenced to 67 consecutive life terms for his crimes. Weapon X broke him out of prison, hoping to use his abilities to conquer multiple universes. Essentially, the Spider exists only to kill and torture others for his own twisted pleasure.
4) Pestilence

The X-Men villain Apocalypse is known for converting both heroes and villains into his loyal and incredibly strong followers, called the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. In one alternate reality (Earth-5701), Cable, Archangel, Blob, and Spider-Man are among those transformed. In this dark world, Spider-Man becomes ‘Pestilence,’ a horrifying, six-armed mutant who brutally murders and devours his victims, literally sucking the marrow from their bones. As one of Apocalypse’s Horsemen, Pestilence helps conquer Earth and causes the deaths of millions. He now enforces Apocalypse’s rule by killing anyone who dares to challenge him.
3) Patton Parnel

This Spider-Man, Patton Parnel, wasn’t a friendly hero. He was a troubled teenager with a difficult home life who had a history of cruelty. When a radioactive spider bit him, the changes were horrifying – he became a massive, monstrous creature with four arms, eight eyes, and dangerous fangs. This transformation unleashed his worst instincts, leading him to commit terrible acts, including cannibalism. He even infected another person with spider eggs that quickly hatched. Though Patton was eventually killed by the powerful vampire Morlun, he remains one of the most disturbing Spider-People in the multiverse.
2) Patient Zero

In an alternate reality known as Earth-11080, Spider-Man became the cause of the world’s destruction. After the Punisher unintentionally unleashed a lethal virus, Spider-Man was the first to succumb to its horrifying effects. Becoming the initial carrier, dubbed ‘Patient Zero,’ he unknowingly spread the disease when he consumed Rhino during a public hockey game. The virus rapidly infected most of the population, turning people into savage cannibals. Patient Zero eventually took control of what remained of New York City. Even though he still held feelings for Mary Jane, he showed no mercy, killing and devouring anyone he pleased.
1) Zombie Spider-Man

Earth-2149 is easily one of the darkest and most horrifying worlds in the Marvel Universe. A terrifying zombie outbreak turns Earth’s heroes into undead monsters – they’re not just mindless creatures, but retain their intelligence and superpowers. Spider-Man unfortunately becomes infected, and tragically, his first victims are Aunt May and Mary Jane. He grows even more powerful after consuming the Silver Surfer, becoming a supercharged zombie who helps wipe out all life on his world. But the nightmare doesn’t end there; when he travels to Earth-91126, he spreads the virus, starting another devastating zombie apocalypse. This Zombie Spider-Man poses a threat not just to one world, but to the entire multiverse.
