Aquaman, also known as Arthur Curry, is a key member of the Justice League and the ruler of Atlantis. He’s one of DC Comics’ most popular heroes, boasting incredible strength, speed, and the ability to control all things related to the ocean. However, Aquaman’s powerful abilities are often challenged by villains who are just as strong, or even more so. While he doesn’t have one of the most famous groups of enemies, Aquaman’s villains include terrifying creatures and powerful gods from the depths of the sea. Many of them are capable of incredible destruction, like sinking continents or even destroying planets, making them formidable opponents.
Most of the ocean remains a mystery, and in DC Comics, it hides terrifying creatures that could destroy all life on Earth. Aquaman, as the ruler of Atlantis, has dedicated himself to battling these threats.
7) Ocean Master

Orm Marius, also known as Ocean Master and Aquaman’s half-brother, forcefully attempts to take the throne from Aquaman. He’s one of the strongest Atlanteans, matching Aquaman in physical power, but his true threat comes from his powerful weapons. Ocean Master’s crown allows him to control water like Mera, capable of flooding entire cities. He also wields a trident that lets him control the weather and create lightning powerful enough to knock out even Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman at the same time. These frightening abilities have rightfully earned him the name Ocean Master.
6) Dead King

Atlan, also known as the Dead King, was the first ruler of Atlantis, thousands of years in the past. After his brother murdered the royal family, Atlan lost his mind and used a powerful scepter to destroy Atlantis, sinking the entire continent into the ocean and killing almost everyone. Centuries later, Atlantean scientist Vulko resurrected Atlan as an undead tyrant. Vulko’s plan was to create a crisis that would force Aquaman to become king. The Dead King was meant to be that crisis, and he gathered the armies of the Trench and Xebel to try and destroy Atlantis. He also had the power to instantly freeze anything he touched, even opponents like Mera and Aquaman. Ultimately, he was defeated only when he was destroyed by molten lava.
5) Triton

In Greek mythology, Triton is the powerful son of Poseidon and a major ocean god with abilities rivaling those of Aquaman, whom he aims to dethrone as ruler of the seas. He’s incredibly strong, immortal, can change size, project energy, control water, and even communicate with and control sea creatures. He’s proven capable of overpowering even Wonder Woman and has repeatedly come close to defeating Aquaman. Triton became even more powerful after killing his father, Poseidon, and absorbing his powers. Using this newfound strength, he led a massive dragon – larger than the city of Atlantis – in an invasion of the underwater kingdom. He conquered the Atlantean Royal Guard and even killed Aquaman once, though Aquaman later returned with Poseidon to strip Triton of his enhanced abilities. Despite this, Triton remains a dangerous enemy to Atlantis.
4) Namma

In Mesopotamian myth, the goddess Namma, also known as Mother Salt, formed the Earth, the oceans, and the very first gods with her husband, Father Sea. After her children killed Father Sea, Namma vowed revenge and threatened to wipe out all life. Though the gods initially overcame her, Namma returned in modern times to finish what she started. As the goddess of salt, she wields incredible power – creating massive salt spikes, poisoning the oceans, transforming into a colossal dragon, or even dividing herself into multiple god-level monsters. It ultimately took the combined strength of Aquaman and nine other ocean gods to finally defeat this powerful creator goddess.
3) Triumvirate of Sea Gods

Earth isn’t alone in having oceans, and it recently faced a terrifying threat from beyond the stars. Three powerful sea gods – Fleet Admiral Tyyde, Commander Drogue, and Captain Gall – were once imprisoned by the ancient wizard Arion. When the Legion of Doom freed them, they unleashed their fury on Earth, seeking revenge against Atlantis and the world. They caused massive flooding and poisoned the oceans with a disease that turned creatures into monstrous mutants, affecting most of the planet’s population, including its heroes. To make matters worse, these gods controlled the Death Kraken, a creature capable of destroying all life. Fortunately, Aquaman was able to convince them to stop their attack with a message of peace.
2) Dagon

The Blue is a fundamental energy source linking all water throughout the multiverse, and Dagon reigns as its ultimate power. Driven by selfishness and using energy stolen from Darkseid, Dagon claimed the Blue for himself, pulling Atlantis and anyone connected to it into his own dimension. As a powerful, ancient being completely in control of the Blue, Dagon leads armies of monsters and easily kills sea gods – turning them into undead warriors. He can also transform into a massive creature, a form he used to defeat both Aqualads and overwhelm the Justice League Blue. Ultimately, Dagon was defeated when Aquaman mastered the Blue and took control of its power.
1) Qwsp

Like Superman with Mr. Mxyzptlk, Aquaman has Qwsp, a powerful imp from the Fifth Dimension. Qwsp’s species can control time and space with their thoughts. While he usually just plays harmless tricks, Qwsp once tried to become a more threatening villain to match a darker Aquaman. This plan went horribly wrong, driving Qwsp insane and turning him into one of the most dangerous imps in the Fifth Dimension. He became a serious threat, trapping heroes like Green Lantern and Shazam, and even endangering Earth itself. It ultimately took the combined power of the Justice League and a council of interdimensional imps to stop him and contain his reality-warping abilities.
