The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its amazing characters, many of whom have extraordinary abilities. Starting with its first film in 2008, the MCU has steadily added new heroes and villains, with the Avengers as its central team. While the Avengers are consistently featured in the major storylines and are considered the strongest heroes in the live-action Marvel films, simply being powerful doesn’t guarantee someone a spot on the team.
As a longtime MCU fan, I’ve noticed something interesting: just because a hero is incredibly powerful doesn’t guarantee them a spot on the Avengers. It’s surprising, really, how many strong characters – both in the movies and the comics – have never actually been official members. We’re talking about heroes with abilities that could really change things, yet they haven’t quite measured up to the Avengers’ standards, at least not yet.
7) Wong

Wong isn’t the most powerful magic user in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he’s certainly very strong. As the current Sorcerer Supreme, his magical skills are considerable. Despite this, he’s never officially been an Avenger. He once helped out the New Avengers in a support role, almost like a caretaker, which didn’t really put his abilities to good use.
6) Thena

While the movie Eternals wasn’t a critical success, its characters are incredibly powerful. Thena, for example, can create weapons from cosmic energy and has other abilities thanks to her unique biology. Interestingly, even though she’s a strong character with a long history – including a stint with the Heroes for Hire and as a key member of the Eternals – she’s never actually been an Avenger in the comics.
5) Ikaris

Ikaris is another Eternal who hasn’t been an Avenger. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he can fly and shoot powerful energy beams from his eyes, making him one of the strongest characters to die on screen. While the comic books give him even more abilities, Ikaris—often compared to Superman—has never received an invitation to join Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
4) Black Bolt

Black Bolt is widely considered one of Marvel’s strongest heroes. His voice can create incredibly destructive shockwaves, though we didn’t see much of that power in his quick appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While he’s a tremendously powerful character within the MCU, Black Bolt’s loyalty has always been to his family, the Inhuman Royal Family, and the secret group known as the Illuminati. He’s fought with the Avengers at times, but he’s never officially been a member.
3) Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2023 with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and is already established as one of its strongest heroes. He has a wide range of abilities, and while we’ve only seen a little of what he can do so far, he’s incredibly powerful. Although he’s part of the Guardians of the Galaxy, he hasn’t joined the Avengers, remaining loyal to the Guardians and the Infinity Watch instead.
2) G’iah

While many fans didn’t enjoy Secret Invasion, the show introduced a potentially major player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: G’iah. She’s a Skrull with the ability to shapeshift, but also gained a huge power boost from a process called the Harvest, giving her the combined abilities of many heroes we’ve already seen. This makes her significantly more powerful than her comic book counterpart, and explains why she hasn’t yet become an Avenger.
1) Franklin Richards

Franklin Richards is quickly becoming one of the most powerful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his story is just starting. While he’s still learning to control his abilities, like in the comics, his potential is enormous – he’s one of the strongest beings in the Marvel Universe! It’s surprising he hasn’t joined the Avengers yet, but considering he’s still a child, that could easily happen down the line.
