DC Comics is famous for creating many of the most well-known superheroes, and this has been both a blessing and a curse. They’ve shaped how people imagine superheroes, establishing characters that have remained popular for generations. However, this success has also created high expectations, which DC hasn’t always met. While they’ve introduced many beloved heroes over the years, some have become less compelling while still receiving a lot of attention and promotion.
Look, I love DC, but let’s be real – some of our heroes just aren’t living up to the hype anymore. They’ve got this amazing legacy, but what they’re doing now doesn’t quite feel special. I think seven of them, in particular, could be incredible with a little tweaking. They deserve a comeback, something to make them stand out and feel truly awesome again, and I believe they can get there!
7) Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart is a fan-favorite version of Green Lantern, often seen as the Green Lantern of the popular Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series. While beloved by fans, the character hasn’t felt truly central to the Green Lantern story for a long time. To revitalize him, it’s time to give him the spotlight and make him the main character in Green Lantern stories, rather than just a supporting member of team-ups. Let him lead the narrative for a change, allowing him to shine as a primary Green Lantern again.
6) Captain Marvel

With DC Comics now working with Marvel again, Captain Marvel has returned to their universe, and it’s time for the character to truly shine. He used to be incredibly popular, even more so than Superman, but that success has faded. Captain Marvel is a strong, compelling hero with a great supporting cast, and he should be a top seller. To make that happen, DC needs to fully invest in him – include him on the Justice League, assign him a comic book with top-tier writers and artists, and feature him in a major storyline. While his books will still need to be titled ‘Shazam’ due to trademark reasons, he has everything needed to become a hugely popular character again.
5) Starfire

Look, I love Starfire as much as the next DC Comics fan. She was a huge part of what made the New Teen Titans so special. But honestly, it feels like we’ve seen the same Starfire for decades. She’s the cheerful, powerful Titan we all know and adore, and that’s fine, but it’s getting stale. The character deserves a shake-up! I’m not saying ditch the Titans entirely, but let’s give her some room to breathe. Imagine her running a city, exploring the wider universe, or even hopping through the multiverse. She’s already got a built-in fanbase, so let’s give them something fresh and unexpected. She needs creators willing to take risks and push her beyond her comfort zone.
4) Raven

Raven is a hugely popular Titan, boosted by her appearances in Teen Titans and Teen Titans GO! She’s a favorite among cosplayers, but her comic book storylines have become repetitive. Like Starfire, she’s often portrayed as becoming too powerful and succumbing to inner darkness. Aside from that, she’s usually just the team’s mysterious magic user and Beast Boy’s love interest. It’s time for writers to give her a fresh, exciting story – she’s an iconic character and deserves more than the same old plot.
3) Jon Kent

Jon Kent, the son of Superman and Lois Lane, is a key figure among teen superheroes, but surprisingly doesn’t have a large fanbase. Many fans prefer the character when he was younger, but trying to recapture that feels like a step backward – he’s a strong hero as he is now. The biggest issue is that he currently feels like a younger version of his father, Clark Kent. To truly become popular, Jon needs to forge his own identity, separate from his parents. Conner Kent succeeded because he was distinctly different from Superman, and Jon needs to follow that example, defining himself as a hero on his own terms.
2) Tim Drake

Tim Drake became known as Robin and partnered with Batman, defining the character for a generation. After Damian Wayne took on the role, Tim’s story felt directionless. What made Tim popular initially was his ability to star in his own adventures, often with supporting characters like Spoiler, rather than always being alongside Batman. To regain that popularity, the key is to give him independent stories again – perhaps even pairing him with Spoiler as crime-fighting partners and exploring their dynamic. Fans loved Tim as a Robin who could stand on his own, and giving him those kinds of stories again would let him thrive.
1) Barry Allen

Barry Allen, the second character to take on the mantle of the Flash, was a defining hero of the Silver Age of comics – a classic, all-American science hero that fans admired. But as tastes changed in the Bronze Age, Barry’s popularity waned, and he was famously killed off in Crisis on Infinite Earths, with his sidekick, Wally West, taking his place. Wally revitalized the Flash character, and when Barry was brought back to life in 2008, he returned as the Flash, though he often felt secondary to Wally in the eyes of fans, who ultimately wanted Wally to reclaim the role. Since then, Barry has struggled to find his footing. A great solution would be to make Barry the Flash of the entire multiverse, traveling between universes to have adventures and solve problems, perhaps with his wife, Iris, by his side. The idea of endless Barry Allen adventures across infinite worlds is incredibly exciting and would make for a fantastic series.
