Even though Avengers: Doomsday isn’t coming out until December 2026, excitement for the movie is building. Because the release is still a ways off, details are scarce and fans are actively speculating about how this two-part finale to the Multiverse Saga will unfold. While many actors have been confirmed for the cast, some familiar faces are notably missing. With a huge number of characters from across the Marvel Cinematic Universe set to return—including some from the old X-Men movies—the film promises to be massive in scale. However, the absence of certain key players suggests that Doomsday still has a few surprises up its sleeve.
Because of the story and where it falls in the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe, many fans believe significant characters will die in Avengers: Doomsday. While most speculation focuses on actors already confirmed to be in the film, there’s also the possibility of other heroes – even those not yet announced – meeting their end as this chapter of the MCU concludes. Several Marvel heroes seem particularly vulnerable if they appear in Avengers: Doomsday.
7) Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is incredibly powerful and still a key player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but she hasn’t been seen since The Marvels came out. It’s surprising that Brie Larson hasn’t been confirmed to return for Avengers: Doomsday, especially given how strong her character is. Many fans believe this could mean she’ll appear in the movie but might not survive, potentially paving the way for a new version of Captain Marvel after the current Multiverse Saga concludes.
6) War Machine

We’re predicting a surprising and potentially heartbreaking event in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie: the death of War Machine. While he’s been a key character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a long time, he hasn’t had his own standalone film, and plans for Armor Wars have been consistently pushed back. It’s possible the filmmakers will use his character to raise the stakes, and having Doctor Doom – played by Robert Downey Jr. – be the one to kill him would be a particularly impactful moment, given the close relationship between War Machine and Tony Stark.
5) Monica Rambeau

The final scene of The Marvels unexpectedly sent Monica Rambeau into the world of the X-Men, quietly hinting at future events in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. It’s odd that she hasn’t been confirmed to appear in the next Avengers movie, especially since her story involving the multiverse is still unfinished. It would be a shame to sideline such a potentially great character who hasn’t fully shone in the MCU yet, but it’s also possible Avengers: Doomsday will involve her death.
4) Hulk

The Hulk’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t quite lived up to his importance, as he’s only had one solo movie despite being a key character since the beginning. Many fans have wanted to see him lead another standalone film, so his apparent absence from the next big Avengers movie is surprising. While there are theories about why, we believe Marvel might unexpectedly kill off the Hulk, possibly to relaunch the character’s story after the current Multiverse Saga ends.
3) Star-Lord

Ever since Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) departed the Guardians team in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, fans have been wondering what’s next for the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While his future role hasn’t been revealed, his absence from the announced cast of Doomsday might suggest his story is coming to an end. Given that Star-Lord’s journey has largely concluded, it’s possible he will be among the characters killed off in the events of Doomsday.
2) Hawkeye

I’ve noticed one of the original Avengers hasn’t been mentioned at all in the announcements for Avengers: Doomsday, and it’s got me worried. Everyone’s guessing Hawkeye will be back, but honestly, it feels like he’s a prime candidate to be the one who doesn’t make it. He doesn’t have any superpowers, he’s already retired once, and he’s been such a core part of the Avengers team since the beginning. If anyone’s going to have a really impactful death, it feels like it would be him. Even though we haven’t even seen confirmation he’ll be in the movie, I’m bracing myself for the possibility.
1) Wolverine

Wolverine has died and been brought back to life in previous films, and many believe he’ll meet his end in Avengers: Doomsday. Although Hugh Jackman hasn’t been officially announced for the movie, his introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the reappearance of other X-Men characters from the Fox universe make his involvement highly likely. As the MCU appears to be launching a new era focused on mutants with a fresh cast of X-Men, permanently killing off Jackman’s version of Wolverine feels like the most logical way to begin this next phase.
