The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its careful planning. When something is said, it’s usually intentional and will likely become important later. In *Avengers: Infinity War*, Gamora explains that Thanos, with all the Infinity Stones, could eliminate half of all life with a snap of his fingers. This initially seems like a simple explanation of his power, but it’s revealed he always intended to do just that. Every line of dialogue in *Infinity War* feels significant because the stakes are incredibly high.
While rewatching *Avengers: Infinity War* isn’t a priority now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is focused on its new Multiverse Saga, the film still has consequences for current movies and TV shows. A specific line from *Infinity War* is being discussed again in 2025 because it appears the MCU is overlooking it once more.
Thor Claims That Not Just Anyone Can Wield Stormbreaker in the MCU

Thor is almost always armed and prepared for a fight. He famously uses his hammer, Mjolnir, to battle foes like his brother and Ultron. However, in *Thor: Ragnarok*, his sister Hela destroys Mjolnir, forcing Thor to redefine what it means to be the God of Thunder. Even with lightning at his command, Thor is unable to defeat Thanos when he arrives seeking the Space Stone. Tragically, Thanos kills half of the Asgardians Thor had rescued, pushing Thor to seek greater power. He travels to Nidavellir, the realm of the Dwarves, hoping they can forge a weapon strong enough to defeat a god.
After rescuing Thor, the Guardians of the Galaxy hear his plan. Rocket agrees to go along, worried about the dangers of Nidavellir, but Star-Lord is hesitant – he believes everyone should have a weapon capable of defeating Thanos. Thor warns that only someone as strong as him can handle a weapon forged by the dwarves, as it could overwhelm a weaker mind. The Guardians trust his judgment, but he’s actually wrong. Once Thor gets Stormbreaker, he readily shares it. Soon, another powerful hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will wield the axe, though not one who overshadows the Guardians.
Spider-Man Will Get to Swing Stormbreaker Around in Marvel Zombies

After Thor, Captain America is the first hero to wield Stormbreaker, briefly grabbing it during the battle in *Avengers: Endgame*. While the Super Soldier Serum gives Steve Rogers enhanced strength, he’s not as powerful as an Asgardian. Spider-Man faces a similar limitation – his strength from the spider bite is impressive, but not enough to directly fight Thanos. However, in a trailer for the new animated series *Marvel Zombies*, Spider-Man surprisingly throws Stormbreaker at an undead Thanos. Though it doesn’t inflict much damage, Peter is fortunate to remain unharmed in the process.
It’s clear why the Marvel Cinematic Universe keeps skipping over Thor’s detailed explanations. In *Infinity War*, his information was crucial – it stopped the heroes from immediately attacking Thanos without a plan. But now that Thanos is gone, there’s no need to stick to that approach, particularly in animated shows where the consequences feel less severe. It’s disappointing to see a franchise that once valued thorough storytelling now prioritize flashy visuals over a well-developed narrative, even if it means ignoring a strong storyline.
Marvel Zombies starts streaming on Disney+ on September 24.
