Hope can be a strong force, either propelling people towards their full potential or holding them back from achieving it. It’s currently uncertain whether this applies to Zack Snyder’s dedicated fans and the universe he created, but they are clearly unwilling to embrace James Gunn’s new DC Universe and David Corenswet as the new Superman, preferring Henry Cavill’s portrayal.
The superhero movie fandom is deeply split, especially when it comes to the DC Universe. While some still prefer Ben Affleck as Batman, even Jason Momoa has shifted from playing Aquaman to taking on the role of Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl movie directed by James Gunn. However, today – the eighth anniversary of the Justice League movie’s release – fans of Zack Snyder’s vision are especially vocal.
Just to reiterate, there’s no reliable evidence suggesting involvement from either Zack Snyder or Christopher Nolan – whose ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy wasn’t connected to Snyder’s work – meaning James Gunn and Peter Safran are still fully in charge of DC Studios. As he sometimes does, Snyder has started to excite his fans, this time through seemingly casual Instagram posts featuring his versions of Superman, Batman, and Jared Leto’s Joker, maintaining a strong level of support among DC fans.
Look, I’ve seen this happen before, and it’s pretty powerful when fans get together. Remember when everyone rallied for Zack Snyder’s Justice League cut? Warner Bros. actually listened and released it, even putting it on HBO Max in black and white! It’s like, he’s built a reputation for getting what he wants when fans push hard. And it happened again with the Coyote vs. Acme movie – they finished it, then just shelved it! But fans went crazy online and actually protested outside the studio, and Warner Bros. finally gave it a release date for 2026. Seriously, it’s the same energy as when everyone freaked about the original Sonic the Hedgehog design – Paramount had to completely redesign the character. It’s happened three times now – fans get mad, make noise, and studios actually listen. It’s wild.
Like It or Not, Snyderverse Is ‘Under the Gunn’
Currently, those in charge at DC Studios have no intention of reviving Zack Snyder’s vision for the DC Universe. In fact, there are no plans for a sequel to Justice League. Gal Gadot’s future with Wonder Woman is uncertain, Ezra Miller’s The Flash wasn’t well-received, and Ben Affleck is no longer writing a Batman movie – James Gunn is planning to recast the role, with Robert Pattinson already established. Even Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s efforts to bring Henry Cavill back for a cameo (and a potential future showdown with Black Adam) were scrapped as soon as Gunn took over.
It’s been eight years since Zack Snyder last directed a DC superhero film. Despite online speculation and attempts to stir up excitement, nothing has changed regarding his potential return. As we approach 2026, fans of Snyder’s vision are left wondering if their hopes will ever be realized, or if they’ll be indefinitely stuck with the current direction of DC Studios under James Gunn.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League is currently streaming on HBO Max.
