During the San Diego Comic-Con, AMC announced that the third season of Interview with a Vampire will be renamed to The Vampire Lestat. In this upcoming season, which is based on Anne Rice’s work, the character of Lestat will take center stage in the popular series, played by Sam Reid. When we spoke with Reid and other creatives behind the show, they shared that playing a vampire rockstar like Lestat requires significant effort. However, Reid mentioned an interesting point, stating that the fans have a considerable role in shaping how Lestat is portrayed on screen.
Reid playfully implied he wished there was no work involved, but then clarified that creating characters isn’t a solo task. He stressed it’s a team effort, and he himself doesn’t solely play the character. Eric Bogosian, as the journalist, plays a significant role, along with showrunner Rolin Jones. The designers are also crucial contributors. Furthermore, the fans’ artwork and ideas greatly influence the creative decisions regarding Lestat’s aesthetic, Reid added.
The Fans Help Define The Vampire Lestat
Discovering that fan artwork has influenced Lestat’s appearance in the series comes as a bit of a shock, but it’s also delightful. Shows rarely acknowledge borrowing inspiration from fan art; usually, they prefer to develop their own unique visions distinct from what fans typically depict. However, Lestat boasts a devoted following stemming from both the novels and the 1994 film adaptation of Interview with the Vampire, which starred Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. The AMC series offers a distinct take on these iconic characters, differing significantly from the cherished movie. Employing fan art to help shape their representation seems like a shrewd decision in this case.
The TV show “Interview with a Vampire” is inspired by Anne Rice’s groundbreaking works in the vampire genre. In this series, Sam Reid portrays Lestat de Lioncourt, Jacob Anderson plays Louis de Pointe du Lac, Assad Zaman embodies Armand/Rashid, and Eric Bogosian portrays Daniel Molloy. For the character of Claudia, Bailey Bass starred in the first season, while Delainey Hayles took over the role for the second season. AMC is also working on other Rice adaptations, such as “Mayfair Witches” and “Anne Rice’s Talamasca: The Secret Order,” which is currently in development.
As a cinephile eagerly anticipating the return of “The Vampire Lestat,” I’m thrilled to share that the new season is set to unveil an exciting ensemble of talented actors. Among them, Jennifer Ehle portrays Gabriella, Lestat’s mother; Christopher Heyerdahl brings Marius, Armand’s creator, to life; Damien Atkins steps into the role of Magnus, Lestat’s maker; Ella Ballentine breathes life into Baby Jenks; and Jeanine Serralles portrays Christine Claire, Lestat’s attorney. Keep your eyes peeled for this captivating tale on AMC sometime next year!
