View Urgent ForecastThis coming summer, actress Henthorn is set to return to her iconic role as Julie Bates, the former spouse of Nigel (previously played by Paul Bradley), a role she originally portrayed 27 years ago since its last on-screen appearance.
In 1998, Henthorn and Bradley departed EastEnders (the soap) as their characters moved on to start a fresh life together in Scotland.
Last Christmas Eve, Bradley reappeared as Nigel; it wasn’t until then that he confessed why he had parted ways with Julie – he wanted to shield her from the strain of caring for him during his struggle with dementia.
Previously, the character made a brief appearance through a voice message that Nigel heard in January.
This week, Kat Moon (Jessie Wallace) attempted to persuade Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden), a close friend and caretaker of Nigel, to reach out to Julie despite Nigel’s objections, in an effort to support Phil during his difficult times.

Regarding her coming back, Henthorn expressed: “Being in Albert Square once more after a gap of 27 years, and collaborating with the charming Paul Bradley yet again – it’s quite unbelievable how swiftly the time has passed!
After the initial joy of learning that Nigel is still alive, Julie may encounter some rather unpleasant shocks waiting for her.
As a passionate cinephile, I’ve truly enjoyed the on-set camaraderie with Paul and Steve (McFadden) – two exceptionally talented thespians. The storyline unfolding for my character Julie, as we delve into Nigel’s hidden dementia diagnosis, has been a deeply moving experience that I can’t help but feel personally connected to.

Ben Wadey, the executive producer, mentioned: “It’s a joy for us to welcome back Karen Henthorn to take up her character, Julie, once more. This time, she’s here seeking Nigel.
Since Julie last met with Nigel about two years ago, she’s not informed about his recent health condition or the circumstances that led to his departure. Thus, their reunion could spark some intriguing questions for both individuals.
Fans won’t have long to wait until Julie meets up with Nigel again – but will they fully reunite?

Apart from her stint on EastEnders, British actress Karen Henthorn gained significant recognition for portraying the passionate character Teresa Bryant in Coronation Street between the years 2008 and 2010.
Apart from his role in these productions, Henthorn has also made appearances in shows such as The Booze Cruise, Doctors, Shameless, Trollied, Vera, Time, In the Flesh, and Heartbeat.
The actress’s most recent role was as Emily in the BBC drama The Listeners.
