While it was confirmed that Homer, Marge, Maggie, Bart, and Lisa would continue appearing until season 40, the latest episode seemed to suggest the disappearance of one Springfield resident. However, executive producer Matt Selman has eased fans’ concerns by affirming that this particular character remains alive. Additionally, Selman hinted that the show’s established history or “canon” may not be as crucial for future episodes.
In a recent chat with Variety, Selman clarified that contrary to appearances in the episode “Estranger Things,” Marge from The Simpsons is still alive. The show’s executive producer emphasized that there are no fixed rules or established lore for the series and humorously added, “The Simpsons doesn’t even have a set storyline!” Selman elaborated on the future scene, suggesting that since the future episodes of The Simpsons are speculative and change each time, Marge will likely not die again. He concluded by stating that Marge is dead only in one episode that aired six weeks ago.

Matt strongly criticized websites that claimed Marge had died, stating, “In my opinion, websites use sensational headlines to attract traffic, and in this case, they used a misleading one about Marge’s death. Every media outlet knew she wasn’t dead, but they still ran the story anyway.” However, Matt found it heartwarming that people cared so much about Marge, even when the news turned out to be false. He added, “It shows how much people care for her, and it’s probably good for business when such misleading stories go viral!
Why did “Stranger Things” choose to journey into the future? The core plot of the season finale showed Lisa and Bart growing apart, a rift that lasted from their teenage years well into adulthood. It wasn’t until an old video of Marge reappeared, urging her children to support each other, that relationships were repaired and all was set right again.
In this recent episode, The Simpsons often peek into the distant future of the family, and it’s not uncommon. There have been numerous episodes featuring grown-up versions of Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, while elderly Homer and Marge watch their kids fly the coop. It wouldn’t shock us if they delve deeper into the future in upcoming seasons; however, we’re skeptical that many of the events shown would end up as part of the series’ ongoing storyline.
