Francis Ford Coppola Shares Update After Being Hospitalized in Italy

Francis Ford Coppola is doing well after a brief trip to an Italian hospital.

After the buzz stirred by local Roman news channels about the five-time Academy Award winner, aged 86, being admitted to the hospital on August 5th, I felt compelled to clarify the rumors suggesting an unplanned emergency admission.

My children call me Dad, and I’m doing well,” Coppola posted on Instagram next to a smiling picture of himself. “While in Rome, I’m taking advantage of the chance to have an update on my 30-year-old atrial fibrillation procedure, performed by the brilliant Italian doctor – Dr. Andrea Natale!

The Godfather cowriter concluded, “I am well!”

Prior to his journey to Italy, Coppola – father of adult children Roman Coppola (age 60), Sofia Coppola (age 54), and the late Gian-Carlo Coppola – had been traveling across the U.S., showcasing his 2024 film “Megalopolis” before sharing updates on his social media about the experience.

He expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who attended the @capitoltheatre in New York, mentioning this in a July 26 Instagram post that also included a photo from the Q&A segment. The engaging questions and ensuing conversation about creating a brighter future for our kids were particularly enjoyable for him.

Despite Megalopolis flopping at the box office and receiving negative reviews from critics when it first came out, Coppola hasn’t sent the film to a streaming platform as of now because “it is still playing in cinemas.

He expressed to GQ in May, “I don’t prefer anyone having ownership over it.” Following the election, screenings of Megalopolis have been sold out – just as intended. Given that it predicted America’s similarity to Rome and its potential loss of republic, people are now eagerly watching it in cinemas.

Coppola stated, “It’s similar to ‘Apocalypse Now’. Initially, it was a huge disappointment, received poor reviews, and was labeled as the worst film ever made. However, despite this, people kept watching it. The same trend seems to be emerging with ‘Megalopolis’.
