Approximately two years have passed since “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” was launched on Nintendo Switch. Upon its release, the game brought a refreshing vibe to the 2D Mario series, and many gamers anticipated additional content post-launch. While downloadable content (DLC) seemed like an inevitable addition for the game, Nintendo has kept “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” untouched, except for occasional bug fixes. However, a recent rumor suggests that this could soon change. As per the leaker Nash Weedle, new dialogue lines have been recorded for the Talking Flower in the game, hinting towards an upcoming content update.
The prospect of additional content in the game Super Mario Bros. Wonder is genuinely thrilling. Despite Nintendo releasing numerous 2D Mario games over the past four decades, this game successfully managed to feel innovative and fresh while preserving the classic elements that fans have grown fond of. This was mainly achieved through the use of Wonder Effects, and some new content or DLC could expand upon what we experienced in the original game.
People should approach rumors about Nintendo’s lack of action on Super Mario Bros. Wonder with skepticism, given its success in 2023. However, it is peculiar that Nintendo hasn’t discussed this game specifically, especially since it was a popular title. One might expect a Switch 2 upgrade for such a hit game. Instead, Nintendo enhanced the graphics of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe to 4K on the current system without mentioning any plans for Wonder. This silence could imply that Nintendo may have more ambitious plans for the game, perhaps a complete redesign for the Nintendo Switch 2, including new content similar to what we’ll see with Kirby and the Forgotten Land later this month.
As a die-hard Nintendo enthusiast, I can’t help but ponder about the lack of news regarding the 40th anniversary celebration for the legendary “Super Mario Bros” that first graced our NES screens back in the day. In 2020, they certainly knew how to keep us on our toes with their unexpected treats, like “Super Mario 3D All-Stars”. Now, I can’t help but wonder if we might catch a glimpse of its return (it seems to have vanished from stores and the eShop), and some of us dare to hope for another compilation this year. Perhaps it could include all the New Super Mario Bros. games? Only time will tell…
As a Nintendo enthusiast, I must admit that the current quietness regarding all things Mario is quite intriguing. History suggests that this silence might be about to break next month, following the pattern set by past Nintendo Direct presentations which typically occur in September. With the end of 2025 and early 2026 on everyone’s minds, we’re all eagerly awaiting a potential reveal of Nintendo’s plans. Given that the year is already more than half over and there’s been no word yet on when eagerly anticipated games like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will be unveiled, it seems likely that something significant is in the works, perhaps a major event to keep us gaming fans entertained.
