Naomi Watts is tailor-made for this role.
In the filming location, the 56-year-old actress assumed the role of Jackie Kennedy, as portrayed in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming FX production titled “American Love Story“.
On August 4th, Naomi adopted the elegant demeanor of the late matriarch from the Kennedy family while working on set, accompanied by Paul Kelly, who portrayed her son John F. Kennedy Jr. She donned a long trench coat, dark sunglasses, and wrapped a silk scarf around her head.
In a casual manner, Paul put on a gray suit but made it more relaxed by slinging the jacket across his shoulders as he strolled along, linked arm-in-arm with someone.
Looking at her once more, Jackie O (formerly married to Aristotle Onassis following John F. Kennedy’s 1963 assassination) later discarded her trench coat, opting instead for a stylish pair of beige trousers and a red sweater that matched her scarf. Her iconic blonde hair is now absent, as she embraces her new look with brunette locks peeking from under the scarf, joining Paul and Grace Gummer (who portrays her on-screen daughter, Caroline Kennedy) on set.
The upcoming series will primarily focus on the love story between John F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, portrayed by Sarah Pidgeon, before they met with a fatal plane accident in 1999. Although specific details about the series have not been fully disclosed yet.
During the progression of the series, some Kennedy family members have expressed their opinions, notably Jack Schlossberg – Caroline’s son and grandson of Jackie, as well as nephew of JFK Jr. – who voiced criticism towards Ryan, following the creator’s assertion that a 32-year-old lacked the authority to critique the series without personal memories of his late uncle.
As a devoted fan, I penned down a heartfelt message on Instagram on the 23rd of July, addressed to @ryanmurphyproductions. In this message, I reminisced about my earliest memories which were marked by John affectionately referring to me as ‘Jackolatern’ and ‘the nudist’. Notably, he would pick me up from school in his stylish Pontiac convertible.
In simpler terms, Jack said that many stories carry on memories across generations, like the humorous tale about a time when he found himself locked out of a car in an intersection. Desperate, he asked the angry man nearby if he could borrow a golf club to break the window and retrieve his keys, which he did successfully.
Despite facing criticism, the series’ lead actress Sarah was thrilled to discuss her role as Jack’s aunt and one of the country’s cherished public figures, which she found particularly rewarding.
In a conversation with TopMob News in July, the star of I Know What You Did Last Summer expressed that they are just beginning their journey. They found it exhilarating and felt deeply honored to assume this role and delve into the life story of an extraordinary woman who has remained significant for nearly 25 years.
She added, “I feel very grateful.”
For a closer look at the Kennedy family, keep reading…
Joseph Patrick “Joe” Kennedy married Rose Elizabeth Fitzgerald on Oct. 7, 1914.
By 1932, they had a family of nine: Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., John F. Kennedy, Rosemary Kennedy, Kathleen Kennedy, Eunice Kennedy, Patricia Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Jean Kennedy, and Edward Kennedy.
Born July 25, 1915, Joe Jr. was going to be president, as far as his father was concerned.
He served as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention in 1940 and had intentions to seek a position in Congress following his Navy service. However, tragedy struck at age 29 when he and his fellow pilot, Wilford John Willy, lost their lives on August 12, 1944. This unfortunate event occurred during an early detonation of explosives they were carrying while participating in a bombing mission known as Operation Aphrodite.
The remains of neither pilot were found, and their names are etched on the Tablets of the Missing in the American Cemetery and Memorial at Cambridge, which pays tribute to the fallen from World War II.
Born on May 29, 1917, it was John who managed to secure a seat in Congress, progressed to become a U.S. senator, and eventually triumphed as the president in 1960.
On the 12th of September, 1953, he got married to Jacqueline Bouvier. They were blessed with a daughter, Caroline Kennedy, on the 27th of November, 1957, and a son, John F. Kennedy Jr., on the 25th of November, 1960.
In 1956, a baby girl named Arabella was tragically stillborn, while Patrick, born prematurely on August 7, 1963, survived for just 39 short hours.
JFK was assassinated on Nov. 22, 1963, one of the defining events of the 20th century.
In the ’80s, Caroline, who served as the U.S. ambassador to Japan during the Obama presidency and later to Australia under the Biden administration, tied the knot with Edwin “Ed” Schlossberg in 1986.
They have daughters Rose Kennedy Schlossberg (born June 25, 1988), Tatiana Kennedy Schlossberg (May 5, 1990), and a son named John “Jack” Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg (January 19, 1993).
TV producer Rose went to Harvard like her mom and married restaurateur Rory McAuliffe in 2022.
Tatiana, who was unaware that her 2014 New York Times article about a deceased bear found in Central Park involved her cousin RFK Jr., graduated from Yale and married college sweetheart George Moran in 2017. They had a son named Edwin Jr. in 2022.
Jack, an alumnus of Yale, who also completed his JD/MBA program at Harvard and is known for his entertaining posts on social media, delivered a speech at the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Additionally, he served as a political correspondent for Vogue, reporting on the most recent presidential election.
In an interview with Vogue in 2024, he expressed being motivated by the tradition of public service within his family. He takes this responsibility deeply and aims to contribute in his unique fashion. He harbors grand aspirations, yet recognizes the importance of making a beneficial difference right now.
In 1988, People magazine named him their Sexiest Man Alive. Before marrying Calvin Klein’s publicist, Carolyn Bessette, on September 21, 1996, he was widely regarded as one of the world’s most eligible bachelors.
Tragically, John F. Kennedy Jr., whose family had suffered much sorrow, passed away prematurely, similar to his father. His life was cut short when he, along with Carolyn and her sister Lauren Bessette, perished in a plane accident on July 16, 1999.
Rosemary (at right, with sister Kathleen and mom Rose) was born Sept. 13, 1918.
At a specialized boarding school designed for students facing academic challenges, Rosemary faced behavioral problems so severe that her father opted for a prefrontal lobotomy when she turned 23 years old.
After undergoing the experimental treatment, which was believed to be a promising solution for mental illness, Rosemary unfortunately suffered severe disabilities and was institutionalized for the remainder of her life (she passed away on January 7, 2005).
Years after the event, Rose confided in historian Doris Kearns Goodwin that she had always assumed she could have led a life similar to a Kennedy woman, albeit at a more leisurely pace. However, everything changed drastically within mere minutes.
Born Feb. 20, 1920, Kathleen got a kick out of life, hence her jaunty nickname.
On May 6, 1944, she chose to wed William Cavendish, the Marquess of Hartington, in a civil ceremony held in London. However, this decision went against her mother’s wishes, as her intended was not Catholic. Consequently, only her brother Joe Jr. attended the wedding among her family members.
A month later, William, a major in the British Army, was killed by a sniper in Belgium.
She stayed in England and developed feelings for William Wentworth-Fitzwilliam, the 8th Earl Fitzwilliam, who was still married at the time. Unfortunately, before they could obtain a divorce, they both perished when the plane they were traveling on to the French Riviera crashed on May 13, 1948.
Eunice was born July 10, 1921.
The dedicated humanitarian and creator of the Special Olympics exchanged vows with Robert Sargent Shriver Jr. on May 23, 1953.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d like to share that I hail from a family of five: Robert “Bobby” Shriver III (born on the 28th of April, 1954), Maria Shriver (on November 6, 1955), Timothy (August 29, 1959), Mark (February 17, 1964) and Anthony (July 20, 1965). Each of them brings a unique spark to our family dynamic.
At the age of 88, Eunice was survived by nineteen grandchildren, among whom were Katherine (born on December 13, 1989), Patrick (born on September 18, 1993), Christina (born on July 23, 1991), and Christopher (born on September 27, 1997) – the four children of Maria and her former husband, Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Patricia, who was born on May 6, 1924, became part of the Rat Pack when she got married to Peter Lawford on April 24, 1954, thus joining their family.
She married a British actor, which led to the birth of their children: Christopher Lawford (born 1955), Sydney Maleia Lawford (1956), Victoria Francis Lawford (1958), and Robin Elizabeth Lawford before they parted ways in 1966.
The British actor was her husband, with whom she had four children: Christopher Lawford (born 1955), Sydney Maleia Lawford (1956), Victoria Francis Lawford (1958), and Robin Elizabeth Lawford before their separation in 1966.
During his lifetime, Peter was known for being a trusted advisor to his brother-in-law, President John F. Kennedy. He is often recognized for having brought Marilyn Monroe into contact with the future president, during a visit to the Lawford family’s residence in Malibu.
In 2006, Patricia unfortunately lost her life. In 2018, her son Christopher, who had been married three times, tragically passed away following a heart attack.
In familiar circles across the nation, Bobby Kennedy tied the knot with Ethel Skakel on June 17, 1950.
OR
Throughout the country, Bobby Kennedy was widely recognized as such; he married Ethel Skakel on June 17, 1950.
OR
Bobby Kennedy, a figure well-known to all Americans, got married to Ethel Skakel on June 17, 1950.
OR
In every corner of the country, Bobby Kennedy was affectionately known; he wedded Ethel Skakel on June 17, 1950.
This family ended up welcoming a total of eleven children, namely Kathleen, Joseph II, Robert Jr., David, Courtney, Michael, Kerry, Christopher, Maxwell, Douglas, and Rory.
Ethel was carrying Rory when Bobby was tragically killed on June 6, 1968, not long after he won the California Democratic primary.
On the 25th of April, 1984, David Kennedy tragically passed away at the age of 28 due to a drug overdose. Michael Kennedy met his untimely end on December 31, 1997, after colliding with a tree while skiing and concurrently playing catch with a football during a family outing in Aspen, Colorado. Sharing three children together, he was married to Victoria Gifford, who was 37 years old at the time.
Ethel Kennedy’s husband passed away when their oldest child was just 16 years old. Despite this tragedy, she became a grandmother to 34 grandchildren. Unfortunately, two of her grandchildren have passed away: Saoirse Hill, daughter of Paul Hill and Courtney, in a drug overdose accident in 2019 at the age of 22, and Maeve Kennedy McKean, daughter of Kathleen and David Townsend, in a canoeing accident in 2020 at the age of 40.
RFK Jr., born Jan. 17, 1954, is a thrice-married father of six.
He has a son, Robert Francis “Bobby” Kennedy III (born in 1984), and a daughter, Kathleen “Kick” Kennedy (born in 1988), who are his children with his first wife Emily Black.
They divorced in 1994 after 12 years of marriage.
RFK III has been married to CIA analyst turned author and TV host Amaryllis Fox since 2017.
They have a shared daughter named Bobby (born on January 7, 2019) and a son called Cassius Watts Thoreau Kennedy (born August 30, 2021), in addition to Zoë (from Amaryllis’ previous relationship).
“The Stanford graduate expressed that life is essentially a compilation of various experiences, some pleasant, others challenging, and the greater the number of experiences you amass, the richer your life becomes,” as reported by Town & Country in 2012.
In essence, a casual acquaintance with Ben Affleck, according to a source, was what catapulted Kick Kennedy into the limelight. This happened just days after Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from him in August 2024, causing quite a stir online.
Affleck’s representatives swiftly dismissed rumors of a romantic relationship, informing TopMob News that all reports about him and Kick are false.
So nothing about being a Kennedy had really changed in a decade. Or a century.
When people ask her, ‘What’s it like to be a Kennedy?’, she explained to T&C that it’s as if the water is too cold for her, and she replies, ‘I have no idea.’ Seeing her face or name in the tabloids gives her a feeling of discomfort in her stomach. It’s not an accurate representation of who she truly is.
Although she wasn’t related by blood, she had a strong emotional bond with her namesake great aunt, as she passed away prior to her father’s birth.
“It’s funny how similar we are,” Kick mused. “She was fun and social and a performer in many ways.”
RFK Jr., the son of Robert F. Kennedy, wed Mary Richardson in 1994. Together they welcomed four children: Conor Richardson Kennedy (born on July 25, 1994), Kyra LeMoyne Kennedy (August 22, 1995), William Finbar “Finn” Kennedy (November 8, 1997), and Aidan Caohman Vieques Kennedy (on July 13, 2001).
The couple were legally separated when Mary died by suicide in 2012.
Father and sons: Conor, Aidan and RFK III.
As a lifestyle expert, I might say: Ever since catapulting into the spotlight as a renowned Harvard student at just 18 years old, and despite my high-profile activism and adventures, I’ve chosen to keep a more reserved personal life – an instance of this being when I invited the extraordinary Taylor Swift to join me for a family gathering at home.
Conor’s brief romance spanned just a few months, after which he matured, graduated from Georgetown Law School, and still managed to make headlines.
“Taylor Swift’s ex Conor Kennedy” is now engaged to singer Giulia Be.
Kyra, a regular among the high-fashion set, lives in Milan.
In a video shared on August 27, 2024, in collaboration with Elle and Bvlgari, she mentioned that she is currently engaged in a project as a tribute to her deceased mother.
She wonders if she has gone through a renewal in her life. Yes, indeed I have. When I was just a child, I was one kind of person. But as I grew into an adult, there was a total transformation in me.
RFK Jr. married Curb Your Enthusiasm star Cheryl Hines in 2014.
The actress shares daughter Catherine Young (born March 8, 2004) with ex-husband Paul Young.
On Father’s Day in 2018, Kick expressed gratitude on Instagram by saying, “Thank you for providing me with such a fun and quirky family of siblings!
Ethel Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy’s seventh child, Andrew Cuomo, has three daughters: twin girls Mariah Kennedy-Cuomo and Cara Kennedy Cuomo (born in 1995), and Michaela Kennedy-Cuomo (born in 1997), who were born to him from his former marriage with Andrew Cuomo.
Kerry and Andrew, who served as New York’s governor between 2011 and 2021, got married in 1990 but separated in 2003. Their divorce followed in 2005.
Jean, born on February 20, 1928, was the eighth out of nine children of Joe and Rose. She established the VSA Kennedy Arts Center and held the position of U.S. Ambassador to Ireland while serving under the Clinton administration.
In the year 1956, on May 19th, I was privileged to tie the knot with Stephen Edward Smith, a key strategist in JFK’s presidential campaign. Together, we raised four wonderful children – Stephen Smith Jr., William Smith, Amanda Smith, and Kym Smith.
Jean died June 17, 2020, having outlived all of her siblings.
Senator Ted Kennedy, who was more notorious than 90% of his family combined, had three children with his first wife Joan Bennett: Kara Kennedy (born February 27, 1960), Edward Kennedy Jr. (Sept. 26, 1961) and Patrick Kennedy II (July 14, 1967).
He and Joan divorced in 1982 after 24 years of marriage and he wed Victoria Reggie in 1992.
Kara suffered a fatal heart attack on Sept. 16, 2011, two years after her father died.
