The Star Wars prequel trilogy encounters its share of criticisms. It delves excessively into trade disputes and Senate deliberations, with George Lucas opting to emphasize the political blunders paving the way for the Empire’s rise. A significant issue in the prequels centers around Anakin Skywalker, introduced as a young Tatooine resident in “Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.” Qui-Gon Jinn becomes intrigued by Anakin due to his supposed Force strength and potential role as the prophesied Chosen One. Shmi Skywalker consents to let her son embark on Coruscant for training, a choice with far-reaching consequences.
Revenge of the Sith,” Anakin Skywalker transforms into Darth Vader by succumbing to the dark side. Critics often argue that this third prequel movie is overloaded, and Anakin’s decision in Palpatine’s office seems hurried. However, it gets worse because the film sacrifices an important Jedi principle to support Anakin’s transition.
The Jedi Temple Is Full of Powerful Jedi in Revenge of the Sith
Even though Palpatine didn’t openly brandish a red lightsaber, it takes Anakin some time to grasp that his guide is actually a Sith Lord. This revelation leaves young Anakin utterly stunned, and despite his eagerness to impress the Jedi Council, he shares everything with Mace Windu without delay. However, Mace doubts Anakin’s usefulness on the mission to apprehend the chancellor, choosing to leave him behind at the Jedi Temple. This decision ultimately proves disastrous because Anakin defies orders and dashes to Palpatine’s office instead. There, he finds Mace confronting the Sith, and with his only hope of saving his wife dwindling, Anakin chooses to betray the Jedi and pledges allegiance to Sidious as his new master.
After gaining Anakin’s allegiance, Palpatine sets out on a mission to eliminate the Jedi, initiating Order 66. Clones across the galaxy betray their commanders, with Anakin leading the 501st towards the Jedi Temple. Due to the ongoing conflict against the Separatists, the Jedi are spread thin, fighting battles across the galaxy. Despite this, powerful figures like Shaak Ti and Jocasta Nu remain. Unfortunately, the fall of one Jedi Temple has a devastating impact, as it reduces a highly skilled fighter to the level of a novice.
Cin Drallig Taught Young Jedi Everything That They Knew
Just like any other organization, the Jedi Order has knowledgeable individuals who share their skills. Cin Drallig, a respected figure, serves as the Master of Battles at the Jedi Temple, instructing young apprentices in lightsaber usage. Notable among his students are Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, who later challenges him during the events depicted in ‘Revenge of the Sith’. Beyond his role as a teacher, Drallig also holds the position of Chief of Security at the Jedi Temple. This position proves challenging when a clone army advances on his residence. Fortunately, he is accompanied by two Padawans, Whie Malreaux and Bene, who face off against Darth Vader during combat. Although the battle isn’t portrayed in real-time within ‘Revenge of the Sith’, Obi-Wan and Yoda catch glimpses of it when reviewing records on Coruscant.
In the heat of the duel, Anakin swiftly gains an advantage over one Jedi, resorting to choking him, but Drallig, a renowned Jedi and Anakin’s former teacher, fails to demonstrate his exceptional fighting skills, landing only a few feeble blows before retreating. The imbalance in their fight was so stark that it prompted a Reddit post, igniting a deep conversation about Drallig’s strategy. Despite Anakin’s undeniable power, backed by the dark side and masterful lightsaber abilities, this one-sided battle seemed unnecessary. It would have been more fitting for Drallig to put up a stronger fight, given their past relationship.
