Hezly Rivera has vaulted herself to the top of another podium.
One year following their triumphant win of the team all-around gold medal for the United States women’s gymnastics squad at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, she claimed victory in the U.S. Gymnastics Championships‘ overall competition and expressed her emotions about expanding her collection of trophies.
Hezly expressed to NBC Sports on August 10 that winning the national championship title feels incredibly significant to him, as he put in so much effort towards achieving it. He also mentioned the challenges he faced returning after the Olympics, taking some time off for extensive training that was both physically demanding and emotional.
She added, “I’m just so grateful that I’m here today.”
The teen also gave a peek into her mindset as she competed in the final day of the multi-day event.
She admitted that it was a bit unnerving, but she chose to have faith in the natural course of events and in divine guidance, allowing her body to perform as it’s accustomed to.
Hezly’s strong work ethic was not only beneficial during the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, but it also played a crucial role in securing her a place to compete alongside Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey at the Olympics last year. This was due to her unwavering determination.
In an interview with TopMob News last July 2024, I shared my overwhelming excitement. You see, all the hard work and determination had finally culminated in me making Team USA. To find myself in such a prestigious position was truly a dream come true. When they announced my name, I was taken aback with surprise.
She went on saying, “I found it hard to comprehend, but when I heard my name called out, I exclaimed, ‘Is that really me?!’ This incredible event has made for a fantastic trip overall.
After the Olympics, Hezly has been aiming for where she plans for her dedication and gymnastics skills to lead her next.
She shared with Olympics.com in December that her ambitions extend to competing in the Worlds in 2025, followed by the events in 2026 and 2027, and ultimately, the Olympics in 2028. In essence, these are her long-term aspirations.
She stated, ‘Clearly, I don’t have grand objectives weighing on me daily. Instead, I establish small targets, not only for each day, but also for each month, and then proceed one step at a time to discover where it leads.’
