At the moment, there are no confirmed intentions to incorporate SEGA guest characters into RGG Studio’s forthcoming Virtua Fighter remake. However, producer Riichiro Yamada hinted that this decision may be subject to change in the future.
During a chat with Giant Bomb at Evo, the industry veteran shared that the team’s main focus for Virtua Fighter right now is to broaden its universe and mythology. As such, they aren’t considering guest characters in their current development phase.
Yet, he emphasized that although it’s not on the agenda currently, it might serve as a potential area for further investigation by the developer in the days to come.

It would be great if we could include Ryo Hazuki in the game since Shenmue originated from a Virtua Fighter RPG, and its combat system shares the same foundation with Sega’s renowned fighting series.
The developer appears eager to delve deeper into the storyline of Virtua Fighter, given that previous versions have largely overlooked this aspect.
Yamada explained:
In previous iterations of the Virtua Fighter series, there hasn’t been much focus on storyline or character background. For our upcoming project, it’s crucial that we delve deeper into those aspects to make them more engaging.
Anticipating some compelling solo-player content in the latest Virtua Fighter release, considering that RGG Studio has always shown a knack for captivating narratives.
Certainly, our aim is to create a superbly balanced combat game that’s highly competitive at its core. We find the World Tour mode in Street Fighter 6 particularly engaging recently, so we believe it’s crucial for future fighting games to excel not just in multiplayer interactions, but also in single-player experiences.
