7 Movies in This $7Bn Franchise Coming to Netflix This Week (Including the Best 2)

Make sure you set aside some time for your family this weekend since all seven movies from the Fast and Furious series will be available on Netflix starting Saturday, August 16th. The first three films as well as the fifth to seventh movies, including the spinoff Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, will be on the streaming platform. Unfortunately, the fourth movie is only available on HBO Max at the moment, but if you have both subscriptions, you can watch seven movies from the Fast Saga without anything being out of order. For those who don’t want to subscribe to multiple services, they can still enjoy the best movie in the franchise, Furious 7, and its close second, Fast Five, on Netflix.

The Fast & Furious movie series stands out amongst big-budget franchises, as viewers will soon discover. For instance, the initial film in the series took its name from a 1954 B-movie; however, the producers did not secure permission to retain the title for subsequent sequels. As a result, the movies now streaming on Netflix this weekend carry more complex titles such as: The Fast and the Furious, 2 Fast 2 Furious, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Furious 7, and Hobbs & Shaw.

Mostly, these films form the core of the franchise, with the exception of Fast & Furious, released in 2009, which was marketed as a “soft reboot” because it shifted focus from racing to crime and espionage. Nevertheless, they all revolve around the Torretto family, whether they’re participating in a street race or using a car for a heist, even if that includes driving a vehicle into space!

Watching this entire series in one go might seem like a challenging endeavor due to the movies being spread out over multiple streaming platforms. However, having most of them available on Netflix makes it more accessible. For those wanting a taste of the series, it’s recommended to start with “Furious 7”. This film offers some of the best action sequences, strongest character development, and memorable dialogue from the entire franchise. It even includes popular lines that you might already be familiar with, such as “I don’t have friends, I’ve got family,” and “The thing about a street fight – the street always wins.” There are many other quotable moments in this movie too.

The movie “Furious 7” marks the final appearance of the late actor Paul Walker, who sadly passed away during filming. His character, Brian O’Conner, bids an unusual goodbye in this installment, which can be quite emotional for some viewers. For those who want to understand the family dynamic before saying goodbye to Walker, they should watch “Fast Five”. This movie introduces Dwayne Johnson as Luke Hobbs, along with other recurring franchise elements.

For folks who make it through Netflix’s new series and are eager to see the story unfold completely, things might become slightly more challenging. Following Furious 7, it’s recommended that you watch the eighth film, The Fate of the Furious, before moving on to the spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw. As of now, you can stream The Fate on The Roku Channel, or rent or buy it digitally from PVOD stores. If these options aren’t available, you’ll need to track down a Blu-ray version instead.

Following this brief interlude, the primary series resumes with ‘F9’, a film accessible if you have a subscription to Prime Video. Meanwhile, the most recent addition, ‘Fast X’, can be streamed on the Starz streaming service. While it’s also possible to digitally rent or buy ‘Fast X’ via Apple TV, Google Play, or Fandango Now, please remember that it is not available for rental or purchase on Prime Video or YouTube. Instead, these PVOD platforms will redirect you to Starz.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to look forward to the next installment of the Fast franchise coming out anytime soon due to Hollywood labor disputes and the devastating wildfires in L.A. earlier this year. The release date for Fast X has been tentatively set for spring 2027, but no specific date has been confirmed yet. With the series currently available on Netflix, take advantage of having most of it together in one place before it moves to a new starting point.
