The popular series “Adventure Time” featuring Jake the Dog and Finn the Human may have concluded temporarily, but Fionna the Human and Cake the Cat are picking up where they left off. Slated to return in 2023 as “Adventure Time: Fionna And Cake,” season two is already underway behind the scenes. To get fans excited for their return, a brief glimpse of their upcoming episodes has surfaced online. Intriguingly, it appears that Cake and Fionna might not be alone this time; they could be accompanied by an unanticipated third character, who is not the Ice King.
If you missed out on the initial run of Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake, the show centered around a human character named Fionna in a world similar to ours. In this universe, she got swept up in an interdimensional adventure. Accompanied by a reformed Ice King character, Simon, and later meeting Cake the Cat, they embark on a mission to protect the multiverse from a colossal menace. While Fionna and Cake’s first season did come to a closure, there were still plenty of unexplored storylines. A recent image release indicates that the Huntress Wizard will be joining their adventure in the next season. Check out the sneak peek below.
A Very Different Season 2
This past summer at the Annecy International Film Festival, showrunner Adam Muto spoke about the upcoming spin-off series and confirmed that The Huntress Wizard will have a larger role. Muto mentioned that the focus will shift more towards Fionna’s original universe, suggesting that the trio could become some of the most eccentric characters in the series. In Muto’s own words, “For this season, we wanted to primarily explore adventures within Fiona’s world, hoping it would make things seem less unusual, but let’s face it, even with these changes, it’s still going to be quite peculiar – a trait that is inherent in the DNA of ‘Adventure Time’.
Although Cartoon Network’s latest social media post hinted that season two is imminent, they haven’t specified an exact launch date yet. With Fionna and Cake leading the way, the Adventure Time franchise won’t stay a duo for much longer. Warner Bros, who have been heavily invested in the franchise since last year, are currently developing new content. This includes a movie, a preschool-focused series titled “Heyo BMO,” and a prequel series called “Adventure Time: Side Quests.
In my excitement as a die-hard Adventure Time fan, I’d love to share that while the original series wrapped up Finn and Jake’s epic journey in “Adventure Time: Distant Lands,” the franchise didn’t end there! The adventure continued through comic book series and beyond the confines of the television screen. Now, with Fionna and Cake coming into play, following the conclusion of Jake and Finn’s story, it seems they might take a backseat in the main second season. However, as we witnessed in the first season, alternate reality versions of our favorite duo could very well make appearances!
