Disney’s latest project, titled “The Man in My Basement“, unveiled its exciting trailer and poster featuring stars like Corey Hawkins, Willem Dafoe, and Anna Diop. This thrilling movie will make its grand debut at the Toronto International Film Festival for the first time.
Adapted from Walter Mosley’s renowned novel, the story unfolds in the African American community of Sag Harbor, New York. The protagonist, Charles Blakey (played by Corey Hawkins), is struggling financially, facing potential foreclosure on his ancestral home. A sudden visit from an enigmatic businessman, Anniston Bennet (portrayed by Willem Dafoe), presents an unusual and prosperous offer: rent out the unoccupied basement in Charles’ home for the summer and receive enough funds to clear all debts. However, upon accepting, Charles embarks on a chilling journey that delves into his family’s past, ensnaring him in a harrowing puzzle centered around race, the underlying cause of their torment and the root of all malevolence.
As a captivated spectator, I find myself drawn to the compelling creation of Nadia Latif, a visionary director whose masterful touch is evident in this cinematic experience. The screenplay, a collaborative effort between Walter Mosley and Nadia Latif themselves, paints a vivid picture that I can’t wait to unravel. The ensemble cast, featuring the talents of Corey Hawkins, Willem Dafoe, Anna Diop, Jonathan Ajayi, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr., Pamela Nomvete, and Tamara Lawrance, promises a journey that I’m eager to embark on.
Coming To Select Cinemas 12 September 2025 and Disney+ this Autumn
