The web is awash with rumours about Sony pulling the plug on Fairgames.
For individuals unacquainted with this particular game, let me catch you up: It’s an action-packed cooperative shooter, developed by Haven Studio – a Canadian team led by Jade Raymond, who was later acquired by PlayStation.
Of course, Raymond has since left the team, and the project is said to be in turmoil.
Recently, the Japanese titan conducted a preliminary trial for gathering feedback on their project, which primarily yielded unfavorable responses. This appears to have instigated some shifts in the company’s management.
It appears that speculation about the cancelation originated from an episode of The Pachter Factor, where well-known industry analyst Michael Pachter discussed Sony’s focus on live services.
He stated that they transformed every studio into live service development units. This change led to Concord’s closure, the developer ceasing operations, and consequently Jade Raymond losing her job and the project Fairgames being abandoned.
It seems there may be a misunderstanding regarding Pachter’s statement. He appears to have linked Raymond’s departure to the project’s cancelation, but in reality, the two events are not directly connected.
As a devoted enthusiast, I’d put it like this: When Raymond parted ways with the developer, I personally felt a sense of commitment towards Haven Studios from PlayStation. We’re thrilled to embark on this continued journey together!
It appears that Fairgames isn’t progressing quite as smoothly as Sony had hoped, and there’s a chance it might be cancelled down the line. However, for the moment, it seems that the game is still being developed according to current information.
We’ll check with the platform holder, however, and share any updates if we get a response.
