Ben Affleck’s Iconic Thriller With 96% RT Score Is Back on Streaming

This August, one of Ben Affleck’s critically acclaimed movies, which he directed, produced, and acted in, will be available for streaming. Since his breakout performance in “Good Will Hunting” (1997), Affleck has solidified himself as a top-tier actor in Hollywood. His notable films include “Gone Baby Gone”, “The Town”, “Chasing Amy”, and his portrayal of Batman in multiple DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films. This 2012 espionage thriller, with a 96% critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the distinction of being “Certified Fresh”, is Affleck’s fourth-highest rated movie, and it can now be streamed.

The film under discussion is “Argo,” now available for streaming on Peacock. This movie is inspired by a real-life event called the “Canadian Caper.” In this historical incident, six American diplomats who fled the US embassy after it was stormed by protesters during the Iran hostage crisis in 1979 and 1980 were secretly rescued through a joint operation involving the CIA and the Canadian government. Ben Affleck portrays CIA Officer Tony Mendez, who disguised himself as a Hollywood film producer to assist in the rescue mission. The movie also features Victor Garber, Bryan Cranston, Alan Arkin, and John Goodman. Starting from the beginning of this month, it has been added to Peacock’s streaming service as part of NBCUniversal’s August 2025 lineup.

The film, titled Argo, was widely acclaimed by critics for its engaging narrative that skillfully combines historical authenticity with cinematic flair. It features compelling performances from the cast, action-packed and emotionally charged storytelling, and commendable direction by Affleck. The movie stands as one of Affleck’s top-rated films on Rotten Tomatoes, boasting a 96% approval rating among critics and 90% among audiences.

The film continued its victorious streak on the awards scene, garnering wins for Golden Globe Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and British Academy Film Awards, along with seven nominations at the 85th Oscars. Interestingly, Affleck missed out on a Best Director nod, but ultimately Argo won the coveted Oscar for Best Picture – his first since he had earlier received the award for Best Original Screenplay at the 1998 ceremony for Good Will Hunting.
